| Post subject: | Know Nakayoshi? |
Seeking some expertise. What is this and where did it come from?
I know its name- Astromons- and that this sculpt is most likely that of the collaborative release from Nakayoshi, Dream Rocket and Shono Kikaku. However, I've never seen an unpainted orange version- moreover, there is no orange base color production release to my knowledge. I bought it bagged like this, in a cheap plastic bag, knotted at the top. The foot has a 1973 Tsubaraya copyright mark only. Thanks for any help, and sorry for the crummy photo. |

I've never seen an orange-base nor orange-unpaint of this either ... I have always wondered why there are two different-named similar critters - Astromons and the other (the name of which I'll only remember immediately after I hit Submit), both sorta rooster-monsters with a sun/starburst thing on the chest. Is this based on a traditional Japanese legend or something? It's just the fact that there are two names/two figures with the same oddball features that is puzzling me. CC |

not sure if you were looking for info on character or vinyl or both... he's from Ultraman Taro.. http://monsterarchives.proboards38.com/ ... 680&page=1 Nakayoshi made other Ultra series figures like the Redjack which I really like, (I have the pink vinyl version only 5 made) and a few others. The orange is pretty cool, perhaps a test shot. I do seem to recall seeing another solid color figure of one these Nakayoshi figures on yahoo a while back. Nice piece. |

bottled- It is a standard size figure- about 9-10". K-T has some of the production releases in stock for pretty good prices. Thanks for the link, onibaba. I've seen the Redjack in your collection- in fact, it spurred my interest in these Nakayoshi pieces. I do suspect that this may be a test shot. I remember seeing a photo of some unpainted solids on the boards, but I think the Astromons there was blue. I really like this sculpt now that I have it in-hand. It's big and chunky and the vinyl is glossy. The arms remind me of Last Kaiju and have some tentacle-ticulation going on. |

So, is there any connection between Astromons and Bemstar? Or is it just coincidence that they are both vaguely chicken-like with major geometric chestal decorations? CC |

Astromons' chest is actually a giant flower- he's kind of like the Biollante of Ultraman- giant, carnivorous plant-thing (I know that is a horrible comparison, sorry). I don't know much about Bemstar. |
