I imagine I'm not the only one who has wondered about the sphere-thing in the Kai-Zine RxH Catalog, labelled 'Real Head Dharma.' I thought dharma was a Buddhist concept, but that didn't get me anywhere. Josh and Hiro gave me the scoopage though. Apparently this is not a RxH production - it's Mori's own Dharma Ball. It "represents the sitting buddha, and you get it with the eyes blank and unpainted. You make two wishes to it, and if one comes true, you paint in one eye. If both come true, you paint in both eyes. The RxH one was just Mori's personal piece and was displayed at some toy events, but never reproduced or sold." After your second wish is granted, I see that you dispose of the Dharma Ball by burning it, tossing in the ocean, etc. It was only after learning this info that I even noticed that Mori's as pictured in the catalog has only one eye painted. I don't know what Mori's two wishes were, but I think I may need to find one of these, and wish for my two topmost-wanted RxH gets (maybe Hiro Bat and Popsoda Chaos ... or Jyarinko Bat and Walder Variant Akro ... or Bubble Chaos and Jya Evil, or ... shoot, I wonder if these things come in Dharma six-packs for those of us unable to reduce our wishes to two?) Nice post Miami. It looks like he's not just drawing the eyes in there, the kanji on the ront reads 'real head'. They sell those Darumas in the 100yen store nearer to new year over here, let me know if you really want one

I think I should add a little clarity to this thread. The way you use a daruma (dharma) is when you want to undertake an arduous task you paint in one eye and make your wish. When your wish/task is accomplished you paint in the other eye and then either display it as a 'trophy' to your accomplishment or burn it as an offering to the mystical forces that helped you reach your goal. --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daruma The "tombstone" is an giant Shogi piece that says real x head on it. I remember garadama said he could get one made from Mori himself when he first had it in some toy festival awhile back. I was not interested at the time but it would be good for him to confirm this ( or as my client says "double reconfirm") I know he is spends less time on the board but if he can "double reconfirm" that would be interesting to know that one could have obtained a RealxHead version. |

I remember a show early this year or last year which featured dozens of artists version of the Dharma Ball. Im not sure if this was released at the same time, but the show looked interesting. |

Thanks for clearing this up, Data. My apologies for getting the story garbled in the OP - as so often happens, I ended up learning far more than I expected from this thread. Fascinating to hear that Mori may have once offered 'custom' Daruma balls. CC |

Resuming a moldy oldy ... I recently found an unused Daruma made of paper mache or plaster at a thrift store and have been thinking about what goal I want to set with it. Then I noticed Mori's daruma in the RxH USA site. It's freakin huge! Mine's about the size of a cantaloupe and red/white. Just curious, does anyone know (Datadub?) what Mori's goal is? Seems to me he's quite a success already!
