I've noticed that Gargamel has a shitton of mini's, but I have only notice that the hedos, bakos, & zag have standard sized releases. I may be wrong on this.....I would love to see a standard sized Deathra & even a Smogun!

I prefer standard toys, maybe I feel like I'm getting more for my money? Or the larger amount of detail? I dunno, I know I'm the minority. Minis are cute, but they don't connect w/me as much.

I'd LOVE a standard Deathra (we all would, there was a poll I think it won.) Can Gargamel do a Smogun or Tetran now w/the HUK. versions being done? I dunno.

i agree, there is better detail in the standard sizes. Plus, the additional articulation of the arms and legs instead of just the head/waist makes me feel like I'm buying a toy instead of just a cute little sculpture. a collection looks better when there is a wider variety of sizes, toO!

as for the hukko doing smogun and tetran, i don't see why that would be a problem. I mean, they did a repo of zag even though Gargamel had a new mold for it out on the market.

haha - now I am of the opposite mind. I love the mini-s and have a good collection of them. There's something about the smaller versions that i can't pass up. Sure they lack the detail but I like the more smoothed / organic look to them :D

Zag didn't sell well until there were Zag minis. However, by this time, a full sized Deathra would probably be as popular as full sized Zags. I'd love to see a full size Deathra too.

I wish it could be said that full sized Tetran, Beralgon, and Mightin would sell well, but it's probably not so. They sure are cool as minis.

There's already a line of standard sized Smoguns... not by Gargamel, but it would be kinda redundant for them to make a large version.

Yeah, but you know how "the masses" prefer Gargamel's stylized "cute factor" take on things. Hukkokudo's Mightin was cool in that oldskool blobby sort of way but I'll bet that a Gargamel version would be "cleaner" and have broader appeal. Same with Smogun ... Hukkokudo's emulated the original bootleg, but if Gargamel scaled up their version, it'd almost certainly be more popular.

He's got a point. The Hukkokudo Smog repros are great, but I'd rather see a Gargamel release too. Look how clean the Zags look in comparison. I'd plunk down change for it.

BloodDrinker6969 and other pro-standard-sizers, you're not alone!!

I've softened to the notion of mini's, but my collection's a good 95% ST. In fact, the majority of the vinyl collectors I roll with prefer ST's as well (granted, they're mainly character toy collectors).

I can understand why some folks like the cuteness of minis...and also shelf space can get limited quick with standards. But ST's have some sort of old-school TOY appeal to me...like, if I were a kid again, I'd naturally gravitate to the big'uns...big=fun.

Edit: oh, I was gonna second (or third or fourth or...I've lost count) the nomination for Deathra...but then I realized that I'd almost certainly pick up ST's of all the other monsters they make!

A while back, I was told that the Japanese toy collector market has polarized somewhat: you can consistently sell one giant item to each collector, or consistently sell a few dozen smaller items to the same person. The middle ground is much more treacherous territory.

I think Gargamel has embraced the "few dozen" philosophy.

I also think that the majority of folks in Gargamel's niche are slightly different than those of say, M1GO or Marmit's, whose fans are more focussed on standard-sized toys and expect more of the same.

Bingo Roger. There's a funny irony in the fact that Gargamel updates obscure boots, but that their updates appeal well beyond those who know or care about older kaiju. Nothing wrong with that at all, but it's interesting. I think it's all about the refined sculpts.

That's what I find so appealing about Gargamel figures... sort of minimalized to the essential elements and really polished.

for seeing how long they sit in stores now, i don't think the minis sell that well either. it's a shame...

+1 vote for standard sized Smogun. The original was obviously sculpted by an 8-year-old with a spoon. I love it but I'd like to see what a good sculptor can do with the character.

hahaha. i totally agree. it almost seems that when they "finished" it, they were all like "Oh, shit. I forgot the arms....oh well, i'll stick one here, one there. presto!" :roll:

Whoa, whoa, whoa, that sculptor who did the original Smogon was probably hired to do it in a day or two for the price of a Gargamel lucky bag. Have a little respect...
