| Post subject: | ? re Pascagoula |
I recently got a Pascagoula figure and wonder if anyone could enlighten me on the source of the name - ? Pascagoula is a town on the MS Gulf Coast, pretty much a little company town dominated by Ingalls Shipyard (my college roomie was from there), and I think there is/was also a Navy ship USS Pascagoula, but does anyone know how this came to be a kaiju name? Also, what's the source of the monster? Ultra-, Spectre-, ... ? Any images of him in his filmic version? |

it's not a kaiju, but rather a few aliens that 2 guys claim to have seen in pascagoula with bullet shaped heads and a slits for mouths http://www.ufocasebook.com/Pascagoula.html

I love the Michael Lau version also. Not the ones he recently released but the After Dark ones that were bigger and had removable helmets. My g/f got me one for xmas BUT the english company DPMHI totally ripped her off. She ordered it 3 weeks before xmas and finally after 6 e-mails they said they sent it out at the end of January. We never got it. The credit card company is now fighting it. So I never got it Don't ever order from DPMHI. |

That sucks. I have ordered 2 times from them (2 pascagoulas too). Both orders went fine, but the second pascagoula arrived with some terrible QC issues. But thanks for the heads up, I'll think twice before ordering from them. I like the Project After Dark Pascagoulas better, but I have to admit I like the newer ones too, hehe. Good to see some love for Michael Lau here. He might be responsible for the whole "urban vinyl" craze (the poor guy), but I like how he kinda changes his style with every release. |

I'm in the UK and have dealt with them since the Maharishi days (way before the DPMHI store opened) and have never had a problem! The Maharishi versions of anything are always an instant sellout!
This guy got released a few days back . . . includes a DVD with some knda Lau x Prodip alien kinda collaboration goodies on it! |

Yeah, I'm considering that! The DVD is actually some sort of ufology documentary. Last I heard the DVD/figure combo costs less than the regular release of the smaller pascagoula! |

I absolutely love the Off World Creatures...!!! I only have the taller black & yellow ones and just orded the new smaller blue one that comes with the DVD... got all trigger happy and paid a little more than I should have though... finding the taller grey and white Project After Dark ones have proven to be a difficult task... plus they are all kinda pricey to begin with...!!! |

Thanks for all the info! Now, I wonder why it is that all of the Pascagoulas (and Other World Creatures) have those divots all over? The story linked above only mentions their 'wrinkled skin.' Oddly, in the Clarion-Ledger article linked, one of the guys again describes them as having 'elephant skin - real wrinkled,' but he also says "These things were robots," and that their ears "had to be antennas" (although he said he believed there were other, living beings on the ship). Maybe the divots were the original kaiju sculptor's artistic interpretation of wrinkles, and all subsequent ones simply repeated the trait? (What's the earliest Pascagoula? Does it have the divots?) |

I was always tempted to get a couple of the earlier versions. Never got on board. Not really feeling the recent one, dvd sounds interesting though. The design is a bit too rounded for my liking compared to the 1st version. |

I'm actually very bummed about not picking up the original white one...it reminds me of a birch (or is it beech?) tree...which I love... have to add to the never-ending list of pieces I missed out on...hurm. maybe I'll get one someday, but like sumatra said - it's proving much harder than one would think. It's easier to get OG Lau stuff than these... |

I'll probably jinx myself by posting this but I think I scored the Yellow large (with removable helmet) version of this guy. It's paid for so we'll wait an see if it actually arrives this time. I got burned last xmas with thinking I might of had one from the UK. Still want the grey (birch tree) version. I can't believe that it took me this long to get one (over a year). The After Dark Alien has proven very very very elusive (I only wanted the yellow and grey versions). carry on... C. |

I just scored the darker grey Maha version of the Off World Creatures and can't believe it... the price was perfect considering I have never seen one for sale anywhere in the past and it's the rarest one of the bunch... now I'm just praying that he arrives in mint condition, fingers crossed. All I need now to complete the set is the white birch looking one which I'm hoping will be easier to find and less expensive in the long run... as far as the new mini versions go I currently only have the blue one with the dvd... I really want them all but they are very expensive for the size so they must wait |

I was watching that one but alas I only like yellow and grey (I like the ski mask guy underneath). Man this kinda sucks that everyone else is looking for the white birch one also. Now my work really is cut out for me on that guy! |

I don't know what they went for retail, but I'm thinking close to 80-100 range. I just got my yellow one for $110 shipped. Nice score! C. |

got the yellow one last yr. at sdcc from giant robot, but the love has faded and god knows whether I have the box or not, probably not. Wonder whether the navy was testing out some new gear and this all sorta got blown up? |
