I've seen some King Akuda Ver. Skull Brains and Plant Brains around. I haven't been able to see either more than a small picture on websites. what is the difference between these 2?

Whoa! King Waldar's brain seems to be a bit baggy...sagging down over his teeth!

They all do that sir :D . . . both are the earlier squishy brains . . . no biggie . . . just needs repositioning over nose and at base of head!

Just a bit of morning brain, I think.

The KW brain and Plant Man brain were inspired by these designs (although these are the new minis produced by Charactics).

The original toys were the 12-inch King Walder I body, and a costume designed for a clear green version of the KW I body, which was Plant Man (i.e., "Shokubutsu Kaijin" in Japanese). These were produced by Takara in the 1970s under the Henshin Cyborg line of toys in Japan.

Takara released repros of some of these toys in the late 90s, and this page has a good overview of these. Super7 magazine, issue 11, has an excellent article on the various vintage Walder alien toys from Japan and the UK.

Btw, the Akuda vs. Waruda vs. Walder vs. Waldar spellings of the name are just various iterations on the romanized words. I think Akuda is actually a mistranslation, however.

Ah, okay. I have the Invisible Brain (squishy) and it fits correctly - I thought maybe this one had been stretched or something...good to know it just needs repositioning!

Squishy brains are the best - I really wish they'd bring those back once in a while. The Walder brain is one of my all-time faves.

i'm a little late in the game of skullbrains, so i don't own any that have the squishiness. when did they stop doing this and why? sounds like a pretty badass quality to move away from. what versions rock the squish?

They had to stop cause the softness of the squishy brain couldn't hold the paint too well. I thought I saw the Plant on ebay but the auction might be over already. Squishy brains are nice and I also wish Secret Base would release a few new figures with squishy brains or bandages for the Damaged Brain.
