That's insane. The pieces went for maybe double retail last time, but nothing like 2000% of the normal price.

Whoever these bidders are, they're really stupid, really rich, or both.

most likely these are typical Phillips customers who never even heard of this type of toy and they were bamboozled by the very persuasive people at the place that talk the stuff up...

$8,000 for that SB set...nuts.

Great now all the flippers are going to change their names to something stuffy like "Graham Wellington" or "J.G. Butterfields" and charge 10x more.

Dude, the skullheadbutt stuff went for $750! This is truly a sign of the apocalypse!

I wonder if any of those guys will have buyer's remorse when they log on to eBay and check the completed auctions... Or is that considered passe in the world of HIGH CALIBER ART?

Do you guys realize that we are all now super rich art collectors? We should go to SDCC this years in suits and stuff. Josh, will guys be serving martinis and hors d'oeuvres at the booth this year?

OMG! the gandar went for more than $2700, plus the buyer's premium. it's a common Bullmark that usually goes for around $150.00 on ebay. Complete insanity.

Bear context in mind. The value of these items in context is a certain curatorial spin, if you will. As obtained, the objects will be received with documentation noting their origin. The appreciation or depreciation of the collectors' collections exist in a different realm from the one we're operating in. This might seem absurd, as they're the exact same vinyl figures that we buy, sell, and trade for much more reasonable prices, but they don't come with the curatorial / collector's realm connotations and documentation. Not sure if this is going to make sense to anyone unfamiliar with the art collecting game.

why is such documentation important for these collectors?
