just got mine in and the paint app looks a tad off on the chest plate and underside of the facial are - black bleeding onto the body Anyone else have this problem? I may take a q-tip and some V-Color thinner to it to clean up the overbleed |

On mine the face and chest plates are pretty cleanly done (no spillage onto the body) but I doubt if masks were used for this. Maybe on the face. I just take any area spillage to be an effect of the fact that these are hand-sprayed. On the Devilman Evil, the black shorts weren't painted "within the lines" so to speak, but it doesn't look bad. Generally I think of the "handmade" aspect of kaiju spray to be part of its charm, but it sounds like on your Jinja the spray was a little too off center for comfort (?) |

yeah i usually love the handpainted aspect of the look we get on these but this looks like it was "printed off center" even though I know these are not printed per se - but the lack of a mask or shaky use of one is giving me the willies lookin at the sloppy paint to one side - glad this thing is so damn yellow and full of pop! |

I just took some pics for those that want something to see rather than read. It looks like a custom, or someone with grubby hands when they were painting it? If it's intentional then it would have worked if it was all over. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

gatchabert wrote: Battle-worn Jin? Good one, I like that. Wow kidclam, I'll take a closer look at mine tonight, but when I checked it this morning, I didn't see anything like what's in your photos. I can see why manimal suggested cleaning it up a bit. The black paint on top of the red is especially disappointing. |

It looks more like the red doesn't completely obscure the black paint underneath. I'm assuming the red details were hand-painted on after the piece was sprayed with black. |

There have been a very small amount of RxH figures with paint problems lately. I noticed on one of my mini mutant heads, the paint looks like it's been scratched, and on another figure it flaked off. Maybe Mori needs some younger guys to help with the painting. |

The 60s/70s generation of toy sprayers are aging, retiring, and passing away, and evidently with "handmade" vinyl toys of this sort being more of a niche art than a mass production thing, there's not a younger generation of painters being apprenticed. That's my impression from overseas anyway. For the most part I think we can agree that most RxH pieces are exquisitely painted, but it'll be interesting to see if there are more such issues with current J-vinyl in general. |

logang1 wrote: I think in terms of dedicated painters....Koji Harmon certainly comes to mind.... Absolutely, same thought here, especially because more than any other kaiju-painter/customizer I know of, his work reflects an understanding of and even lineage with the "classic" sort of spray style. He appears to be moving towards independence though. I don't know, but suspect that aspiring to be a toy painter isn't exactly common among young Japanese people these days. To say the least the world has changed since "the classic era." |

If it were my jinga-r, I would actually be inclined to leave it the way it is. I kind of like knowing that once you buy something it hasn't been retouched etc. |

the last of the really quality handpainted toys very well might be upon us now. live it up, gents - because we might not see quality of this scale in the semi-near future from a toy brand. |

this is from the blue evil thread but I think Jason's comment has good relevance here... logang1 wrote: If there's one very remarkable thing that I learned on our visits to the RxH shop, it is that Mori has a tremendous amount of pride apparent in his creations, and is quite the stickler for quality when producing his toys. I've seen some posts about painting inconsistencies, and can only say that these must have squeaked by. During one of the conversations that I was nudging around the subject of run sizes (with my buddy Jun translating), Mori explained to us that he is very keen to point out even the most subtle flaws in the vinyl itself, BEFORE he sends the figures off to the painters. Then, the painting phase of production is even more challenging, as he has only 2 aging "specialist painters" or artisans that he uses for his toys, whose eyes aren't what they used to be. These are also the same artisans painting the new minis, which to me are amazing simply because of the amount of detail realized in such a small figure. RxH is indeed a treat! Appreciate those hand painted toys!!!! |

Joe Bunny wrote: that last photo kills me, as i too, display all my realxhead figures laying on their back. I think that last photo shows you that it is definitely a mistake and not intentional paint job. I haven't seen RxH handle a figure as bad as this and wanted to show you that it got to the feet too. II remember that black paint was on the bag too. Shows you how rushed this release was... edit: I just noticed upon that raising the right arm near the hand area, the red spray has a big chip. |

i agree - having a hand painted figure(s) is a real treat - but this is the sloppiest RxH toy , or any toy for that matter ,that I have gotten so far now the debate as to wether I should "clean it up" or leave it - what is the general feelin from the crowd? |
