so one wonders are they copying RxH or Denpagon? or do you think someone told them Frankengeruge colorways were 'in' this month

they have a whole series of figures that are homages to past characters. there is this frankengeruge colorway, there is an astro mu version (found on the Secret Base section of this forum), devilman, and a bunch of others. I think there's about 10 versions, maybe more. personally, i don't really like them. i kinda like the astro mu version but the others...meh. the feet look like the figure will be doing spins off a diving board.

homage usually implies love and respect...
not getting that feeling from these little dudes.

Why not Don? Some info we don't have?

I know Hiddy is passionate about the stuff he will be doing with Convex, especially the Henshin Cyborg influenced stuff. If you look on teh Convex blog the clear Astro-Mu tribute looks really good:

Also, I see a bunch of what look like test shots of Hiro Grimm's little Waldar tributes from 4 or 5 years ago or so. These Convex guys have a similar feel.

My google translation revealed noting - can anyone who reads Japanese provide a better translation? If this project is Hiro Grimm related then I am very excited.

Homage, tribute, I couldn't think of a neutral term to use. Anyway, the Convex stuff is being talked about in the Secret Base section so there's no need to continue it here. Way to do any kind of research, garadama...not a bit of research done at all.

Speaking just for myself, with only that photo as a starting point, I might have posted here too, with the Chaos in the pic - If you had no way of knowing any SB connection, or the name Convex, how could anyone know to look in the SB section? I advocate Search-before-asking as strongly as anyone, but I don't see much of a beef here.

check out the green, headless figure here.

this body, probe and feet look very much like the hone borg. thick cyborg ribs/chest, gloves/probe w/ thick cuffs, boots etc - this looks a LOT like the hone borg IMHO.

yeah, I see what you mean. (sorry, a little off topic here): you know, I've been more and more curious about Mori's influences the more I've got into his line of toys. I noticed that the Gatchigon's body design is kind of similar to Kanegon's body design by way of the "flaps" and stuff. so it makes me wonder what else is out there that I just didn't notice.

J-vinyl really is a melting pot of ideas.

Oh yeeeah. Now I see it.

The Hone-Borg inspiration doesn't surprise me as much, as it's pretty apparent that it was intended to be a spin on the Henshin Cyborg concept. What is interesting is that little figure makes me think that Mori incorporated some elements of the Dokuro King design into the Borg (i.e., the ribcage chestplate)- maybe it's sort of a fusion of good and evil characters.

I wish I had one of those mini Walder sets. Ever since I saw Ramos post about them, I've been very interested, but I don't even know where to start looking.
