So...it seems like the new Eaton has a bit of a problem. I've had 2 eyes pop out while putting Eaton over the Unchin. The soft vinyl is too soft for the adhesive to stay in contact with the gold eyes and if you bend it just right, it pops right off. I am thinking of just taking out all the eyes and painting them in. I'm sad because Eaton is one of my favorite toys and I love picking it up and squeezing him. :(
My Eaton is blind on one face right now.

What makes you think I haven't used Super Glue?

And it's still popping out?
Damn, leave the poor guy alone.

I am sitting in the Charlotte airport with a single eyed eaton. Did Koji suggest super glue? I wondered if there was a better adhesive to use on vinyl.

Now featuring deluxe eye pop-out action!

Perhaps an epoxy made for plastics, or an adhesive that is rubbery when set and would have some give itself, since the problem seems to be the soft plastic moving around the eye/glue.

Does have the Unchin underneath add to the sculpt? (i.e. when you look at it can you see it through the clear vinyl?)

If it didn't I would just leave it off but if it did add to it them maybe you have to heat of the vinyl just like other stuff.

That's a bummer about the eyes.

Lol. Koji suggested something else besides super glue.
Have to ask Bert what it was, I forget.

epoxy ?

Post subject:  Re: New Eaton bummer

wouldn't super glue eat through the vinyl or does it just have that affect on plastic?

Also, aren't future release of the Eaton going to be soft vinyl as well? If so, could the eyes be retro fitted with posts?

Super glue is a terrible option... if you have any oil on the surface of the figure, the fumes from Super Glue will cause it it fog up and you won't get it off.

Don't you guys watch CSI?

Question:

Is this specific to the SDCC release or to other releases?

I have yet to see one in hand....

The S7 anniversary eaton head was harder vinyl and I think that the newer releases (i don't have one in hand but am guessing) is made of a softer vinyl.

That being said..i haven't had any problems with s7 anniversary eaton.

This problem is specific to the SDCC release (so far), but will probably happen to any squishy head release, like the upcoming orange/blue. Pre-SDCC releases had the harder vinyl head, which was made out of the same material (I think) as the body. The squishy head is pretty squishy...something like a rubber ducky, so its easy to tell. I haven't squished mine too much yet, but I can see how this problem could happen.

Super glue won't eat through the vinyl. If it did, they would not have used it for sealing small cuts.

The main problem is the contact point from vinyl to plastic (the eye). The contact point shrinks when you bend Eaton. The newer Eatons will be of this softer vinyl to make it easier to pop the head out and put it back on to the Unchin. Yes, Super Glue will cloud up clear vinyl so if you have some and want to try it out, don't turn over the bottle til you have the point right over the space for the eye, but I am telling you guys right now, it won't work. The glue not only has to be strong enough to bond both porous and non-porous materials together and there are a few that can do this. Epoxy is one, but you have to find the right kind that doesn't dry into something that is solid. I thought Rubber Cement might work but it won't since the eyes have no texture for the cement to grip on to. I suppose you could sand the back of the eye to get some texture, and that might be the best solution. Anyone have any other suggestions for adhesives?

I guess nailing them is not a good idea ?

what is the original method gargamel uses to attach these? vinyl glue of some type?

I think rubber cement would work well. Put some in the socket and on the back of the eye, let it dry and press it in. Rubber cement has it's own elasticity and should give with the vinyl. It's also super easy to clean of any excess. just roll it off with your finger.

Rubber cement sounds like a good option. I was also thinking clear museum putty-it's non permanent as well.

Pshash!

Super glue works fine!

Just a SMALL ammount put in the eye hole with a toothpick.

i had to do it.

Post subject:  Re: New Eaton bummer

hey you guys might find better adhesion repairing those eatons using that tube product thats compound repairs vinyl car seats and such as it literally becomes one with the vinyl through molecular assimilation whereas superglue/crazy glue just forms a upper dermal glue scab if you will that has a likelyhood of becoming detached.

hope this helps & sorry for the run on sentence!
