A few months back, there were multiple posts about how SB was dead. Given some of the new releases....... (Like these) ![]() I wonder if they are willing to reconsider.... |

Don't forget the Voodoo series! The purple/blue Skull Brain DBM Mask's are two of the coolest figures around! |

Some people did indeed say that - some people who should know better - but the truth is there was a rash of releases and a few that maybe lacked some imagination, but never anything that signalled the death of SB IMO. Hence my sig line for a while SBFL - Secret Base For Life. People are saying the same about RxH, but the truth is if you really love toys by a certain designer, then what attracted you in teh first place will keep attracting you to it. You just have to keep teh faith, don't buy it if you don't like it and endure teh bumps along the road - knowing they'll be back with something amazing that reignites you. Giving up on something and professing they are "dead" after being apparently so into it just smacks of fair-weather fan to me. The truth is SB has never been dead - SBFL |

Been a collector of things my whole life, Books, Comics, skateboards, all friggin kinds of toys, even disney stuff (yeah yeah). In all my 33 years of collecting I have never found a medium of the likes which SB uses. Super clean, great Quality Control and service, plus with how things are released and how the affiliate companies/artists who collab with SB (and other Japanese based companies) all work together with SB to ensure no doubles are purchased, off setting american release dates with Japanese release dates or what have you. They just make it very fun to collect these treasures. Same can be said about S7's releases and how those are coordinated. Japanese vinyl and western influenced Japanese vinyl (pushead, sutfin, kaws, flynn, ect ect.) kicks ass!! I love the SB. |

Even though I'm not a fan of much of the recent stuff (Usugrow, the Voodoo series) I still look forward to seeing what SB has up their sleeves. The rainy day Wing is a perfect example - a beautiful version of a great sculpt, done extremely well. So I'm with Carl - keep the faith, baby! |

Another thing that stands out to me is that SB hasn't really "bombed" the market with releases the way some other companies have. The releases are all fairly spread out and well managed. You don't have 12 figures dropping in a month. I like that, even though what I collect from SB is fairly limited to begin with. Not everything is a hit - but then, there are very few companies that are able to make a superb figure with every release. |

SB got me into the Kaiju game. I never thought it was dead. Matter of fact I was relieved that they took a little break from releasing stuff so I could play catch up. Now I just can't keep up SB, RxH, whatever. KFL |

Super clean, great Quality Control[quote] The only thing I will disagree with you on in this statement is that chrome series they did. too much flaking off, and it *might* have been avoidable but I won't complain because the one figure i own that is chrome is still bagged. SB isn't dead, RxH isn't dead either. It's the people who drive the hype up and get bored and have massive sell offs that make others think that way. Those who are in it for the long haul will always be diehards. it's like the people who like different types of music. when it starts to get popular, it's "uncool" to like it anymore and you see a mass exodus. It's kind of sad really, but it happens. I completely agree with Carl on this...collect what you like for the right reasons and it never "dies". |

The only thing that ever seems to remain stable and avoid all hype is the cool vintage stuff imo. Everything else seems to systemically roll through the hype machine. |

I gave up on RxH for reasons unrelated to coolness or other's perceptions. It simply became too painful and frustrating to collect and as a result I've abandoned the line. Fair weather fan vs pure masochism? There's no obligation to slam one's head against a brick wall perpetually. RxH is dead to me now. Its cooled off and likely gettable again but the good vibes are gone. Hiddy took steps to insure bedrock SB fans didn't get blocked and as a result he's got my loyalty, support, and respect. |

I do have a chrome Frankenghost and the chrome on his feet stuck to my glass shelf. Other than that I have absolutely no complaints. Def, "collect what you like and collect it for the right reasons" is such a wonderful statement. True collectors die hard!! SB RULEZ! Matt |

But even vintage has been on sort of a roller coaster with prices dropping on certain stuff. I can't agree with the blind allegiance to a toy company and worshipping everything that they make. I still think the Sharkman, the new Obake and the Zipface are weak. I think it is somewhat cyclical and that also companies can lose their way or vision or what made them successful originally. Finally, I believe that sometimes there are other motives in play when certain people proclaim certain companies are past their prime. |

liquidsky wrote: I can't agree with the blind allegiance to a toy company and worshipping everything that they make. I still think the Sharkman, the new Obake and the Zipface are weak. ime. I hope u didn't misread my post as I mention buying what you like NOT buying everything blindly. That is a sure fire road to burn out and collection dissatisfaction. A few years ago I was an SB completist but that's a stressful road to take. I love sharkman as I thnkhe is a great tribute to the original, nu obake is just not as good as the og and zipface is cool just not my thing. I totally agree with Ed there is this "I used to be into it but now everyone likes it so I don't" thing that persists in any scene, here is no exception. Screw that. LOL gotta be careful typing on this phone - I keep losing track of my point. Ps here's hoping cure loses favor and there is aboogie man sell off so I. An pick up all the ones I missed for decent prices. |

has hiddy designed any of the toys that Secret Base releases? ghostfighter, brains, frankenghosts, rebel ink, cure faceplate, skullwing--none of it is really his design. please enlighten me if i'm wrong. did kiyoka do all the SB sculpting until starting Gargamel? does he still do the sculpting for hiddy? the toys that come out are awesome, but I'm mega-confused about what Hiddy does artistically. |

Carl, my point about blind allegiance was just a general comment and I used Secret Base as an example as the thread is in the Secret Base forum. I've never understood the completist point of view, especially as there are so many companies making great product. |
