Post subject:  Newbie seeking Toy Info Please

Hello,

My name is Mr. Humphreys (well, it's really my kitty's name :) ), and I am a female living in Burlingame, California. I'm new here and wanted to say hello! I think I've caught the bug for Japanese vinyl--is it cureable?

I've really fallen in love with Kanegon. The small clear green Bullmark version, is my first Kanegon toy, but I would definitely like to collect more. I know that the earlier pieces were made by Marusan, and then came Bullmark. Where does US Toys fit in, and are there any more manufacturers of Kanegons?

Also, if someone can tell me about these characters, I'd appreciate any info (I couldn't find any info when I googled the names)

Elegab's Missilelas
Zandora

Thanks for helping out a newbie!

P.S. I am dying to know if anyone knows where I can buy a blue Kanegon emerging from a clear cocoon. I once saw it at Super7 a long time ago, but didn't have the moolah at the time to buy it! I've been kicking myself ever since! Thank you!

Welcome! Not cureable. It only gets worse.
Watch the For Sale Forum like a hawk. And you can even try posting a want list in your signature or the Wanted Forum. Good luck.

If you look in the Japan Toys section, I'm pretty sure you can find some info regarding Elegab's Missilelas and Zandora. The search function should help (if it's working properly).

Also, check out Yahoo Japan Auctions to hunt all your Japanese vinyl needs. If you find what you're looking for, contact Celga and have them bid (or buy it now) on your behalf. Good luck and welcome to Skullbrain.

That kanegon emerging from the cocoon is from Toygraph...a very good "new" company a la US toys.

WOW! Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! :D
Thanks too for the all of the info. I'll search JP toys for more info. Mikeee, I think you already have quite the Kanegon collection, I remember seeing some uber cool photos in your Flickr.

EEP! GID Kanegon! Thanks for the sales link. I don't have very much of a buyers reputation yet, being a newbie, I hope people will still be open to selling to me

Excuse my ignorance, is Celga a board member here? I've always wondered how I could buy things from Yahoo JP, since they won't ship to the US. Thanks for another helpful tip!

I'm still looking for the holy grail of Kanegons (clear cocoon!)
Thank you everyone! :)

Elegab's toys are linked to the Dokuro Tarou character (website here)- I'm still not sure if it is the same artist working on both. Seems to be. He recently released the Missilelas and a fingerpuppet sculpt, Haramakion, which have a number of color variations.

Zandora is from an old live-action show, Zone Fighter (aka, Ryusei Ningen Zone). A company named Orange created/produced the first standard size toy in concert with another company, Ark. Recently, Charactics (newer company / toy shop in Japan) shrunk the character into a middle-size (about 6" tall) sculpt and released a few of those. It's pretty nice since the original toy is very, very difficult to find.

Hope that's a fairly thorough answer on those... You have good taste in monsters, so welcome to the end of having money.

Actually I only have 2  but thanks! As previously mentioned, Joe Bunny would be the man when it comes to Kanegons (or if any others then please step up).

The two I have are from U.S.Toys that you're inquiring about. They're giant sized Kanegons and pretty well articulated. Definitely worth every penny... Every!

Here's a little link to a blogger who's supposedly a fanboy of U.S.Toys and not an official site (or so I've been told): http://ustoys.reyspress.net/

Btw, Celga's a service that bids or buys on your behalf on Japanese auctions or websites.

welcome to the board!

there are a lot of great kanegons out there for sure, and you seem to have noticed US toys and toygraph versions which are great.

Us toys makes mini versions about 3 inches tall, shampoo bottle size and the giants which are around 15 inches tall.

If you're interested in kanegon, another great site to check out is clubtokyo.org They cover a lot of different lines from vintage up until now.

*Faints* :o Kr! Those up-close and personal photos are awesome! Thanks for sharing your collection!
akum6n, thanks for the links and the description of Elegabs and Zandora. I have to admit, they appeal because of their cuteness factor. I'm afraid I am fascinated with the vintage JP stuff, and I'm just discovering how expensive they can be--wowzas! Thanks for the clarification on Celga, Mikeee, and the linky to UStoys. Atease, I just saw the metallic Kanegon on clubtokyo.org--can I actually order from them? Argh, can someone loan me a money tree? :P I've yet to see a Giant Kanegon, I wonder if Brian has one in his collection?

...my pocket book is doomed!

Club Tokyo has 2 versions cataloged, probably the only two. I bid on the GID on YJA once but it went too high.

The M1 bank style Kanegon is also in a cocoon, but not removable.
