The new Gargamel head sculpt that was released in the Lucky Bags this year had a familiar look to it that I couldn't put my finger on. I began looking up some old Bullmark figures on Club Tokyo and there he was...Aboras from Ultraman. He looks like he really could have been a source of inspiration for this new head sculpt.

I was thinking the same thing Ralph. I love the Aboras. The Gargamel sculpt needs paint though - at least in my opinion.

Any idea where that auction on YJA ended?

The YJA auction for the new black Garagmel figure ended last week at a high price.
If you are referring to the vintage Aboras, that is ytbd.

Yeah, the Aboras is a great figure, basically a Redking body with a different head so swapping head designs
to economize on body molds was common even for vintage figures.

I'm hoping Gargamel is planning to release a Mini version.

That would be great. I hope there will be a time when gargamel mixes things up with the mini/fullsize figures a bit.

It'd be great to see a fullsize deathra, rokoron or giant size cigarette.

Anyway...I like this head sculpt and am really interested in seeing more produced. I kind of like how it came out of nowhere and no one was expecting it.

Good observation.

Hey that's really neat. It definitely does have the Aboras' head shape- wonder if it is based on an old bootleg or if it is a new design.

I also would like to see standard size renditions of some of the Gargamel minis. Maybe they feel it hits too close to the original?

flesh head of vintage one looks awful  with its black eye its reminding me of embryo monsters in direct-to-video horror movies. :D
hoping for some color on the gargamel head too - looks too much of a snake so far imo.

anyway thanks for info ralph!!! :D ...didnt know before.

Great eye Ralph!

I've been rediscovering Club Tokyo (such a good resource) over the last week but never caught that.

That's the first thing I noticed, was the Redking body ^_^
and his head is reminiscent of the Mousers from TMNT

Does anyone else think that Aboras is just a new head on a painted Red King's body?? I am talking about design and costume. Just a thought :)

I thought it was just a silly thing to do....chuck a another head on a zag body.....but seeing how it echoes this particular 'aboras' toy is quite an interesting nod.
And helps give me a clearer insight into Gargamels inspiration and artistic vision.

No doubt.
It would be interesting to start a thread cataloging the various vintage figures that did re-use bodies and swap out the heads. Maybe in the vintage section where Mark and Jim could really contribute with their knowledge as well along with Mike Johnson whose Club Tokyo site has truly been an incredible resource.
Below are Bullmark Aboras and Redking pics from Club Tokyo's site.
(Mike, if it's not ok to use these pics plmk)

The ones I can think of are: Pagos/Neronga/Gavora (all based off the Baragon suit) and Pegila/Chandora. There may be more.

So for Gargamel it would just be "new head", zagoran and bakabos. Correct?

I didnt think of the bakabos, I still dont have one of those, so may be 'no' to a particular vision and 'yes' to straight out economics. More than likely a bit of both.

Wowsa! From what I gather from the Gargamel blog this sounds as though it's not a production run but maybe a few customs are being released? Maybe Koji or somebody else can clarify. Looking good with paint though that's for sure.

It's interesting and looks great with paint. You can definitely see the tongue outline clearer.

Did they release a name for it yet?

Looks like it's called Mibora. Blog says something about how it was sculpted 3 years ago but scrapped because it didn't fit into the Zokki Kaiju line. I'm sure someone can do a better job translating than babel fish is doing.

The painted pink is so nice along with getting a better sense of the head, horn and tongue.
So nice.

Mibora is the correct name...if I understood Kiyoka.
