it was kind of fun to watch it go back an forth for 1/2 hr into bonus time though. I'm over trying to find this one. I think I'm just going to try an find a blank yellow and have someone paint a copy for me. I'd appreciate that more than these outrageous prices.

Good crap, that's expensive! If you don't mind my saying, it's not a terribly difficult looking spray to have *someone* do for you... the biggest thing would be getting a really accurate photo to use to match the colors. I almost had the LB with that blank in it about a week ago, but forgot to bid. It's on my to-get list for blank sets.

You can pick up the entire lucky bag for a little more.

You just have to wait it out. It took me a few years.

The real thing is much better than a boot.

No no Dennis I didn't even get a chance to bid! My limit was 25000 yen and just as I was about to place the bid with my bidding service (real time) it shot past to 27501. I was about to deposit more money (so I could bid higher) and it shot past 30000! It seemed like a battle btw emi**** and bar****. I don't know who either of them were. Yeah not one of those bids was mine, I just said fuck it after it hit 30000 and never bid at all.

I know patience is a good thing in this hobby but in all honesty I don't feel like waiting another 2 years for a solo one to show up and be outbid again. A bootleg would be fine by me at this point (and alot less expensive).

I gave up on this a LONG time ago as well. Luckily Koji painted one which was very close, only the red was a slight different shade. I actually asked him to add juts a little more paint so it wouldn't be a considered boot, he added a few more black spots and I love him even more than the official release now.

If your lucky enough to have Koji paint you one similar you would be very happy I bet. His paint apps in hand are something to marvel over. They are like refined factory paint apps. Its like you where able to get the factories best man who really wanted yours to look the best.

There is patience, then there is the satisfaction is actually being able to own something you really really admire. Yes its not the exact same but after having what I have in hand I can definitely live without the painted lucky bag. If and when it does pop up I will go for it, but wont loose sleep if I dont.

Well said Rich. Yeah you kind of read my mind with getting a bootleg version done. What's always slightly bugged me about the M1 version is it's missing that black chest spot found on most "Tokyo" painted toys. I'd have one of those put on. And yes I actually do lose sleep about not having a painted yellow matango in my collection (besides the new ones it's the only one I'm missing- painted) :)

They seem to go for big money when they are solo. The entire lucky bag can be had for about $100-$125 or so, per figure. You can keep the other figures (all awesome and equally rare as the Matango) or sell them off.

Nothing could match up to Yuji's paintjob and super thick gloss coat.

if bar*** is who i think it is, you will have a tough fight.

that's an old name most of us will never forget. that person has deep pockets for whatever they want. i have been outbid by them more times than i'd care to remember.
the hunt is half of the fun. it will be that much more rewarding when you do get it.

Reminds me of this great video with Dennis and Yuji Nishimura, owner of M1 Go, in case anyone missed it.

Yuji paints up a Matango in the second half of the video:

Whether you stick to the hunt, Chris, or go the painting route, best of luck, man!

Wow, Paul...I gotta tell ya, I'd personally rather have yours than the original. That makes my head spin....and I don't even collect non-glowies!

Damn, Myles, I wish I'd known you needed one back when they came out...I had line on a few of 'em, but I only picked up one for myself :(

WTF? That's more than I paid for the entire Lucky Bag when I picked it up on YJA. YJA can be really schizophrenic at times.

Your Matango hunt sounds like my hunt for the GID M1 Jet Jaguar. I swear I'm never gonna get that figure. I have to agree with atease, though...the hunt is definitely a big part of the fun.

And, Paul, that custom you did looks awesome.

Edit: Hey, Lixx...just checked out your Flickr link. I'd seen the photos before but didn't realize it was someone on the board. Your collection is killer.

Aren't there a 100 of these floating around out there?

Thought I remembered hearing that number from somewhere. I don't understand where they're all hiding or why they command the prices that they do.

Yes definitely just wait for the whole set. I managed to snag the whole set on yja earlier this year for about $550. I had given up on the figure as well. $550 was allot to shell out but not really considering it was 5 figures. Now I just need that black unpainted.

Real gutted for you Chris!
I was watching the auction as I knew you (and probably many more SB members) would be after this guy!

Just checked back through invoices and managed to get the whole bag back in February for 35,000 yen, and stumbled upon it while looking for the Mechagodzilla. Would've cost me a crazy fortune to score the 2 I was after individually! The MG I tried for ages ago went for a silly price too.

Good luck with the hunt / custom version...

There were 80 sets released (i'm sure my M1 certificate says 80 but it's not in front of me)

It should be from 100.
That's what I remember.
And here's a pic from the auction that just ended.

There are rumored to be bootlegs of this set floating around so be careful.

This set was released for the Nagoya opening of Mandarake about 10 years ago and there 100 of them plus the Unpainted sets which I am not sure about but many, I have had at least 6 or 7 sets myself but never had good timing to get the painted set.
