After having a Mishka marble version boogie man bounce across the Pacific a few times, he's back in Japan, and not lighting up. I've removed the head and arms, and inside the body is the LED housing, the inner guts, and the body. It looks like I can't remove the LED without removing the guts along with it, but I'm worried about getting it all to fit through the neck. Any suggestions or advice before I take a blow dryer to it and try to yank out the cuts with a pair of pliers? Bonus points for alliteration.

Good question - haven't had any batteries go bad on me yet, but been curious about the procedure for replacement.

So I'm braving new frontiers it seems with toy destruction, and I thought I'd document it for others. The first thing I did was use a blow dryer to remove the arms and head.

You can see the LED unit inside the inner guts, which are then inside the body. At first, it looks like the LED won't come out separate from the inner guts.

About 10 minutes with a blow dryer, and some work with a pair of needle nose pliers, I am able to remove the LED without taking out the inner guts.

The problem doesn't seem to be the batteries, but the resistor came loose. Ofcourse, after I played with it some to test the connection, I broke it entirely off. I'm hoping I can find a cheap soldering iron this weekend and put it back together. Look forward to future exploits with toy repair.

You can get soldering irons for about $8 at Radio Shack - make sure it's a low-wattage iron, around 20-25 watts so you don't fry the board or components (looks like a capacitor, not a resistor). Good luck!

Funny, my proto Mishka Boogie came with its LED not working as well. I got a hold of the store I bought mine from and received a replacement LED -- Awesome customer service right there.

Mine never worked either but Joel had added some paint details before I realized it didn't work, So I'm too nervous to fiddle with it too much.

If there was paint on it, I'd be really nervous about stretching or marring the paint. Since this is an unpainted release, I wasn't worried if everything didn't shrink back to how it was before.

In the end, I couldn't find a soldering iron for cheaper than 735yen, and KaijuTaro offers the exact same LED unit for 525yen. I guess I could email Mishka and see if they'll replace it, but that means waiting around with an unfinished toy until it arrives via international mail, and I'm impatient.
