Can anyone clue me in on the exact meaning of patchi and zoki? My understanding of patchi is patchy at best...hey that came out funny, totally unintentional.

And 'Pachi" comes from 'Patchwork' afaik.

I think it came about from people swapping parts to make new monsters
(eg, idunno, a Baragon head on a Godzilla body)
and may originally have been another way for people to get around the licensing.
Then you had people customizing sculpts - actually making a whole new head for example.
Whatever, it's basically come to mean 'original' kaiju these days,
though the bootleg is an important part of that genre.

I'm probably wrong, but I always thought patchi meant "made up monster", or basically something that did NOT come from godzilla, ultraman, ultra q, toho etc etc. Maybe a cruder form of some sort?
