For Marusan's 45th anniversary, they are reissuing the 1966 Godzilla. 22cm tall and 6000¥. I'd love to get one somehow and I wonder how the vintage people feel about this reissue. I don't know much else about it...whether Marusan is doing an exact reissue or if they change it up just a little.

Now this seems really cool. I'll have to keep an eye out for this guy. I'm inclined to assume, however, that it will still be easily distinguishable from a vintage piece due to the difference in the feel of the vinyl.

This sculpt has been reissued by Bandai, B-Club, the new Popy, M1 and Marusan so one more won't make any difference. Like Brian said in his green Goji post, and from what I can see from this pic, they are using the j-tail.

It's not just the sculpt. It's the colors too. It's a reissue of the first Godzilla.

I don't see any problem with it whatsoever. I think reissues are great for folks who appreciate the goofy old style paint and sculpts, but either don't have the dough to pick up a vintage Bullmark/Marusan or simply don't care about new vs. old.

Yeah, to my knowledge, this is the first reissue essentially identical to one of the originals. I don't think too many unscrupulous sellers are going to try to pass this off as an original, so I don't see that becoming an issue. Incidentally, original blues aren't that expensive (roughly 20k).

And hell, I have an M1 repro of MG1 that's pretty damn close to the original. Heh...he's just a stand in for when I can afford the Bullmark!

I dont see an issue with it either, I mean even in an auction photo I dont think would be confused for an OG. As far as the toy goes I guess its cool maybe a bit unnecessary seeing as how many times this sculpt has been re-issued. I just cant help but think you'd be better off with an OG if you are down to spend 6k with the yen/dollar rate what it is now. I picked up a Bullmark Goji for 12k last month, like Sanjeev said they aren't as expensive as people think.

I can hardly wait myself, it will go great with the 30 other reissues of this mold.

I was going to start a new thread for my quick question, but found this one - hope you guys can help.
Unlike some, I have exactly zero reissues of the Marusan Godzilla!

What are the distinguishing marks between the various reissues? In particular I'm wondering how to differentiate, site unseen, an M1 from the others.
(outside, of course, of their attention to detail. Sight unseen, remember.)

Mikey's site mention the foot markings on the Marusan reissue, and I'm guessing Bandai would say 1992 on the foot, B-club with the black markings, etc...

Related - which company's ish would have one foot say (C) 1999 and the other foot say SAN Japan?

Thanks.

Yes and no -- it adds to the pile of puzzle pieces to work with, but I'm still looking for info on the foot marking of an M1, etc.

Many thanks.
