Post subject:  Bakular Variations?

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me explain the differences in the CCP GID Bakulars that I found. I recently adopted this guy on JYA
VERSION 1
Image

A few weeks later, I saw this guy on JYA:
VERSION 2
Image

Can someone please explain some of the color differences I'm seeing?
-Eyes in Version 1 appears much darker than Version 2, but could this just be the photo exposure?

-Version 2 has a dark brown band along the length of his wings (see back views), while Version 1 does not have that banding and the wing colors look lighter in color compared to Version 2

-Version 2 seems to have more gold splash on the back of his head compared to Version 1, and also Version 2's tummy looks darker too. The paint in Version 2 also seems a lot "flatter" than Version 1, which almost looks semi-translucent.

Are these variations "normal" in the same toy? Are the variations due to different manufacturing years? Differences in toy wear? Or, was one version repainted?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you! :P

Version 2 isn't made by CCP. It's vintage. The CCP GID version is also a new sculpt and has no face on the stomach.

Thanks for the answer Lixx, but I am still a little confused

Ok, I understand now (finally!) that the GID Bakular with no parasite on the tummy is the CCP version and a new version, as seen in Booschwobe's photo (the one marked #1):

Thanks for clearing that one up! I was under the impression that CCP made two versions

Ok, a followup question... in both Version 1 and Version 2 photos (in my first post), there is indeed a parasite on both of those Bakulars. It's harder to see the parasite in Version 1, since the text on the outer bag obscures the parasite, but if you look closely, you'll see the little guy is there. Does this mean that BOTH Version 1 and Version 2 Bakulars are the vintage guys? If so, why would one have a striped band running along his wings and the other lack that banding? I'm still confused with that one

Can you please tell me who made the vintage ones as well? Thanks again for your help. I am quite smitten with Bakular!

From your 1st post pics : Version 1 is the CCP reissue, Version 2 is the vintage Masudaya. But the parasite sculpt is the same.

The GID with no parasite is the CCP "2001" version.

There is a 3rd version made by CCP : Brown with silver spray (and the parasite). I'll provide you a pic later if you need it.

As for pic #3 of your 2nd post (you really meant to confuse us didn't you...), those are Marmit Parababies.

CCP made both versions. Both of booschwobe's pics are CCP. Perhaps the reason the CCP version seems thinner is because it might be a copy of the original mold made from a vintage figure. CCP did cast their own mold for the glow version leaving the alien on the stomach out. As far as who made the original vintage figure I'm not sure, but the pic in your first post is vintage (yja pic you call version 2)

Aha! Ok, it's crystal clear now! Thank you PlasticXO and Lixx, for the added explanations! :P I was wondering why the vintage version sold at double the price of the re-issue one! That fully explains it.

Well I am still quite happy with the re-issue CCP parasite-tummy Bakular. I can't wait to see him in person! I also adopted the one without the parasite, so now I've finally completed the white/creamy CCP set! Now I have to see about that brown version, PlasticXO :)

Whoops, sorry about the confusion over the Marmit parababies (yes, I am STILL trying to track these little cutie pies down!). I was too lazy to edit out the last photo in the Booschewobe set  It is dangerous looking at his collection! :P So magnificent!

Thank you again Lixx and PlasticXO!

And do you know about the giant Marmit version ? There are 3 variations out there. Posting the pic again here :

Goodness! Thank you for posting that photo PlasticXO! Just how big is that Bakular and who manufactured him? I bet it's really good at siphoning the greenies from a wallet (with or without an imaginary straw!)

P.S. For some reason, the brown version gives me the heebie jeebies! It looks like it could come to life any moment. Brrrrrrrr!

This version of Marmit's Bakular has the parasite. Scheduled for Oct. release, was one of July's pre-orders. Pic from Marmit's site...

Just to unite the thread(s), we can continue the discussion (and see variants) on the CCP issues here:

As for the vintage figures, I had not yet seen the Bakula, but that looks sweet, sorry I missed that auction. I have seen a few Nezubirdons, and many of them have quite different colouring, e.g. shading of black and grey to bluish even. Some of the other vintage Masudayas are similar, so that is just to say (from what I have seen) it can be difficult to closely analyse specific paint applications like that.

I personally think the parababies are the best, I really wish I could find a pair, or even the double headed one.
