LINK TO BLOG POST and VIDEO ABOUT PAINTWORK ON PAGE 2 ;)

Hey guys - not sure if this is exactly the right spot for this, but it seems to be the best fit...

When I was in Tokyo last month I got to visit a vinyl factory with Velocitron (Ricky). I also have been working on a figure (with assistance from Ricky), so I've been documenting (photos and such) the whole process. Basically, I've put togther a post on my blog that goes through the whole process (as I've either experienced it or had it explained to me), and also links you to the video I've put up on Youtube from the factory visit.

I know a lot of the info in the post is old news for most of you guys, but I hope you enjoy it all nonetheless!

Here's a direct link to the post on the blog:

And a direct link to the video - for those less inclined to read about the whole process:

Enjoy!

Fantastic post!
Its great to see inside these tiny factories, it really makes you appreciate the amount of work that goes into creating the toys we all love.

Thanks!

Don't sell yourself short. I gobble up all the production info I can yet there was still stuff here I hadn't heard or read about anywhere else. This thread is awesome!

So glad to hear that you've been keeping busy since the move - and nice to have proof that it's not one of those pretend trips to Japan, like Matthew took on News Radio.

Hey thanks everyone for reading the post and checking put the video! I felt really lucky to get the insider's look I have so far, and I'm looking forward to sharing more of the process and more videos of the Japanese sofubi/toy scene as my time goes by here!

Really is guys like Luke and Ricky who are keeping the dream alive for aspiring sofubi artists (shout out to Joes's AWESOME new toy - the Cadaver Kid). I looked around (and saved my money :) for a LONG time before coming across Velocitron, and starting my project with him... All along, all I had to do was look at his website! These guys are working hard to make the scene FUN as well - putting toys in the hands of collectors without charging REDICULOUS prices! Ojisan, for example - 2000 yen for blanks!!! Or VELOCITRON's ghouls - painted and bagged for 1000yen - WHAT!?!?!?

I'm trying to follow their example - toys are our hobby (sometimes passion) and collecting should be fun! Making LOTS of fun, new, interesting and ACCESSIBLE figures is what Luke and Ricky (and I) want to do. That way we have fun projects in our studios, and collectors have rad toys to photograph and play with!

Great post. Loved following the development of this guy from concept to vinyl. Next time anybody here is hitting up one of these 'factories' (or paint studios), be it mom and pop, or otherwise, let me know. I would love to make a visit myself if I could. Also, was that actually a vat of toluene? Hope there was adequate ventilation in that small room

Thanks for sharing all this, now on to the paint!!!

I would love to do something like this when I retire - spend my days making toys for others (and maybe even my own toys). Thanks for the info/video!

Hey, thanks again for all the views and comments! Next thing planned will be coverage of SUPERFESTIVAL! I'll be there with Ricky, luke, ilanena, and comet debris - not to mention all the big-hitters that will be in attendance (M1GO, Bearmodel, to name a couple). I'm sure Kaiju Korner will have an extensive post about the event as well - he's super on top of all the goings on in Tokyo.

@Ultrakaiju - YES, paint! Coming right up - next week most likely!
