Post subject:  Bullmark Toho mini memory mystery.

I figure this is the best place to clear this up and relieve myself of some lost reality.

I remember back in the 70's i was at a Japanese toy import store (Kunimatsuya in Buena Park) and at the time they were quite plentiful with the Bullmark minis. They even had a rotating tree full of mediums and minis (Taro-era to Leo-era, right before Bullmark kicked it).

Anyway, I have this memory of a "box set" of Toho minis.

Maybe 5 figs, (Maybe Goji, angiras, mecha G, Gigan, mothera larvae, Ghidora ) but one of the things that stuck out in the set was a little "dome" shaped missile launching "base" that looked like you could fit a mini kaiju inside.

Anyone have an idea or possibly pic of this? I have never seen a pic of this "base" in any book.

I'm wondering if maybe it was some Hawaii only release.

Maybe someone here owns the base, but has no idea what it went to?

OMG thank you! That's it!

Is that an auction, or do you own that?

Judging by the shirt behind it and the shelves in the background, I believe that's Scott Horton holding it. I remember he had it at Chiller two or three years ago. That was a big discovery (for American fans, at least) when it surfaced.

OMG!

That's so amazing! Plus the base doubles as a pencil holder.

I don't remember. I'll shoot him an email.

EDIT: based on the info embedded in the pic, it was Chiller October 2004, and based on the make of the camera I know who shot it. I'll try contacting him, too.

not to be a buzzkill, but that set is one of the most expensive toho items out there. A complete sets costs as much as a kidney I think. I don;t want to quote exact prices, becuse items like this fluctuate so greatly, as it depends on who has the money to buy it at one given time, but I remember a yahoo auction for over 2 or 3k I think. That mini MG is hyper rare, and the mini Mothra even more so. Please don't tell me that you have/had this PK.

No. i would love to have one though.

I remember wanting it at the toy store, I think I was 12 or 13.

My Dad refused to buy me anything vinyl, he insisted Die cast was a better "investment".

I won't even mention some of the other stuff that got passed on.

I thought I was imagining seeing a die cast Kemular, until recently.

I just needed to know I wasn't dreaming about this.

This is certainly a "holy grail" of mine, but it would be no fun to have it MIP. This thing is meant to be played with. I have been keeping an eye out for this for years and they almost never show up. I saw the one Brian mentioned. The individual kaiju come up once in a while, they are all paint variants, but you never see the base separately. The Mothra larva sold a few months ago for 85,000 Yen. The green MG goes for between 35,000 - 65,000 Yen. The others start around 35,000 Yen and go up depending on how bad the buyer wants it. Thanks for bringing this up PK and thanks for the photos Robert.

You blasphemer!

Of course, it would be great MIP. Then you could open it!
And you would be sure to have ALL the pieces...

I think that it does.

You're right. If I had the dough to buy one of these sets (if one was for sale) I would certainly bust it out!

That was probably the same one from that auction years ago. I remembering bidding on it. Shortly after that a shop in tokyo had a mint one for sale. It was around 10k and sold right away. I think the seller of the auction had 2 of the sets.

I can't recall where I got that shot from, but it's definitely from an American.

Here's the only ohter shot I could find. This one's from a Yahoo Japan auction:

I'm pretty sure you got them from me, and I must have gotten them from Greg Cordaro. I've emailed all parties (including who I think may have bought it) to get some more info.

Paulkaiju,
>he insisted Die cast was a better "investment
but, come on, you still got some good stuff didn't ya?

Personally, I can think of other Japanese toys I'd rather own for the dough but that toy is still cool.
