Combex was based in England and was involved wth Marx at some point. They were the parent company of Tomland and shared factories in Hong Kong with Remco/AHI as well as Lincoln International & an obscure company called UFP.. They released a bunch of liscensed soft vinyl figures from Disney, Hanna Barbara & others but I collect the generic low end stuff. Most are uncommon at best but while difficult to obtain, not many folks collect them so they usually go for $1 - $25 or so. While the paint apps are rather crude the sculpts are very charming and I find them comforting in some way. Lots of people hate clowns but I have always enjoyed them, here are a few pics of my favorite Combex I own.. took me almost 10 years to find a minty one but he was less than $20 shipped. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I only know of 2 other folks who collect them but there have to be others. |

that is neat! never knew of those.. i have an old coloring book with Wombles. they are from an English stop motion show from the 60s or 70s based on kids books by author Elisabeth Beresford. description from wiki: The Wombles are pointy-nosed furry creatures that live in burrows, where they help the environment by collecting and recycling rubbish in useful and ingenious ways. Their motto is Make Good Use of Bad Rubbish. This "green" message was ahead of its time in the 1970s. Although Wombles live in every country in the world, the stories focus on the life of the burrow in Wimbledon Common in London, England. even tho vastly different- the orange paint color is identical to my clown.. same production year, good stuff. thanks for sharing info. |
