this guy rocks. he's got a great individualistic look while still fitting right in with the rest of the cartoon mouse/rat characters from old school cartoon shorts. that is to say, he doesn't look like a cheap knockoff of mickey (although that was probably the plan). shoe company, huh? weird. i think he would look great with this vintage guy as his sidekick ![]() ![]() its some random "wooden bat fish decoy" i found on craigslist today, made me think of your ratman. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/clt/1283513150.html |

Ohh, I've grown up with this character and his friends. I always loved the little picture books and thus always wanted to go to Salamander shoe stores. I did a bit of googling and it seems your character is from the 60s. Later versions are a lot more mouse-like and look a lot less realistic than this one here. Though, imho this one here is cooler than the newer versions. ![]() Here is a LINK to a full set. Clocks in at 250 Euros! wikipedia wrote: Lurchi is the advertising comic character of the German Salamander shoe factories. Fittingly, he is a fire salamander. His adventures are told (in German) in small booklets titled Lurchi’s Abenteuer. They are targeted mainly at primary schoolers, written in calligraphic handwriting in simple rhyming couplets. Five friends help Lurchi in his adventures: Hopps the frog, clearly Lurchi's best buddy, ever curious, cheeky and adventurous. Piping the dwarf, the elder of the group, cautious and conservative, but also a tinkerer. Mäusepiep the mouse, fearful and sometimes clumsy. Igelmann the hedgehog, homelike and relaxed. He's the only character whose species plays a role in the stories every now and then, due to his spikes. Unkerich, the Yellow-bellied toad, generally the "strong man" of the group, he also loves eating and is sometimes shown a bit clumsy. Sometimes also Trine, Lurchi's sister (and naturally also a salamander) appeared. wikipedia link |

Greasebat wrote: the one black and yellow salamander, who is completely nude except for his shoes...that freaks me out Weird, ain't it? And the green frog and the yellow toad wear just as much. Still, even as a kid I thought that "Lurchi" was looking kinda freaky with just the shoes on. The strangest thing though is that the same thought never occurred to me with Donald Duck. He doesn't wear any pants either! |

The strangest thing though is that the same thought never occurred to me with Donald Duck. He doesn't wear any pants either! According to the story the toad is "yellow bellied" so that must mean he's wearing some kind of cut off onesie, with co-ordinated spots. and i think that frog is probably the biggest freak out of the lot of them, that dude is zoned! |
