Post subject: | Hollywood/Los Angeles stores?? or san diego stores? |
Hey, I am going to be in the southern CA area...i need to know where i can buy some figures. I am into secret base, balzac, and some gargamel. Suggestions on where to go? I know there is hate for KR, and I can sometimes find stuff i like there, but never in the secret base/balzac/gargamel brands. I know of span of sunset, they seem kinda steep on many things. Any other suggestions? I will also be in the san diego area, anything around there? Thanks. |

San Diego has KR type stuff in a lot of places but no kaiju toys. I've heard rumors of someone trying to open a store but it might be some time before it opens. I'll let him talk about it more if he wants. For non toy stuff, San Diego is a pretty awesome city. If you are looking for other things do here I'm sure any one of us local residents can offer a list of things to do. |

Suggestions? http://www.5andadime.com/ Those are the two I visit the most because I believe they're the best in-town. Don't advertise anything to Commissary though, they don't care about your brand. ![]() |

or you could ask in the la forum or you could just use the search function because everyone who ever comes to LA asks the same question so it has been discussed numerous times |

My video store used to be inside Meltdown (it's a huge store) and they don't have much Kaiju. If you want Godzilla/traditional kaiju they mostly just have Bandai or YMSF. The rest of the vinyl toy selection is more of the Munky King/KR kind. But they have an amazing comics and art books selection and a gallery in the back that sometimes has great shows. I don't know when you'll be out, but there is a cool show coming up there pretty soon. Span is right across the street, but don't have much of the way in toys anymore. They are expensive just by the nature of what they are carrying, but don't seem too much higher priced than anyone else. I would go there for Bounty Hunter clothes more than for toys though. Jungle kicks ass. They have tons of Bandai stuff and other randomness. They actually have two stores in Little Tokyo now. That whole area has a few cool little places worth checking out, and a few great Japanese restaurants. Munky King actually has some cool stuff, and there is always K i d R o b o t down the street if you are so inclined (honestly, they usually have at least a couple of things that are interesting). Around the corner from Munky King is Japan L.A. They have some cool stuff (more knick-knack items - not Secret base/Balzac stuff) and the owner is super nice. Suru and Brooklyn Projects are right around there too. And Headline Records - best Punk store in L.A. Giant Robot has a few stores now, but the one on Sawtelle is the main one, and GR2 is right down the street so check them out. There is a great sushi place down the street from there too. If you are interested in art or bookstores, that is a whole other list. But if you do find yourself in Santa Monica you really should go into Hennessey + Ingalls which is the greatest bookstore in L.A. All about art, architecture, design, photography, etc. Go to Santa Monica on Wednesday morning to hit the best Farmers Market in L.A. and go to H + I afterwards. You'll be broke, but happy. The other "must go" place in L.A. that is not vinyl toy related is Wacko on the east side of Hollywood Blvd. It's the grandpa of weird L.A. and home to La Luz De Jesus gallery. Always filled to the brim with amazing little treasures. I think Pete is trying to get a sticky thrown up in the L.A. forum for stuff to do while you are here. And if you want to get together at all, drop me a PM. Have a good trip! |
