Do others know about this?

This is about 6 blocks South and 6 blocks East of me. I'm sure there are some that live closer to the fun. I'm probably going to check this when I get home tonight from hockey...or maybe on the weekend when the fun really begins. :D

I live about 4 blocks from this guy. I didn't know about this site, thanks bert.

It reminds me of looking off my own balcony

Actually, where this guy lives is quite a bit worse than where I am. It's amazing how things can change in just a block or two in the city!

But...I do live on the 10th floor in the T-loin...and ohh the things I've seen.

I used to live on the 14th floor at post and taylor and worked at 6th and Market above the Warfield theater. I worked market hours so I used to pass this block at 6am every morning. This is a good candidate for the craziest block in the city .

I was watching this today and there was a guy on what the chatters call '3rd Base' broadcasting with a mobile camera. He got off his bike, sat his camera on the curb, and filmed himself breakdancing in the middle of the crosswalk. I was watching the feeds from both cams, pretty cool.

I was watching a few nights ago. Adam came on and said he'd been drinking at Bourbon and Branch. He bumped into the cam and knocked "the crack bush" mostly out of sight. It still hasn't been re-adjusted. Too bad. That bush attracts strange behaviors for some reason.

The chat room is funny because every couple of minutes a newbie pops in to say "I don't get it. Why is this interesting?"

Whoa. Most uncool. Amazing ... just a week ago it was still fun. Damn, poor Adam.

Hmm...this sucks for Adam. He must have really felt endangered.

Reading the story immediately made me want to place my own webcam aimed down at my block...I am in a pretty prime T-loin location to view the activities below.

I have mixed feelings though...

Sure, I appreciate the entertainment value of a webcam showing drug dealers, crackheads, and prostitutes going about their business...
I also appreciate the fact that having multiple cameras greatly improves the chances of catching criminals in the act...or possibly stopping a crime as it happens...
But...
I'm pretty sure that I don't want to be filmed everywhere I go...not that I'm doing anything wrong, it's just too creepy and Big Brotherish. I imagine that it's inevitable in today's world...and we are most likely on camera pretty much everywhere we shop and commute.

I'm just not sure I want to add to this network of all-seeing-eyes  ...

Thoughts?

Yea, I was thinking about it after reading the article.
Seems very UK CCTVish...
"For the greater good." (Hot Fuzz, great movie)

I don't like the "Big Brother" factor either. There was just a story on the local news about how the Fresno Police are using a huge number of cameras to help in detecting and solving crime. They have cameras everywhere. On buildings, intersections, storefronts, etc. Many of which they could control remotely to pan around, etc.
:?

I actually don't like it. We own a condo in a small complex and although it's safe. I don't think I would want one of my nieghbors posting 24 hours a day and feeding it on the internet. It would become a mini virtual world where the lines become a little blurred.

I know the guy was a young not-poor dude living in a historically depressed neighborhood but I am still seriously surprised that he didn't think that setting up a video feed of criminals wouldn't get his ass kicked. I wish I could be that naive...

His biggest mistake was posting his personal information in a very accessible area. That's just a stroke of stupidity especially if you're doing something like this.

Ignorance is bliss... until it gets you beat down by the criminals you video taped.

I contacted him to get set up in the network of cameras that he was trying to pull together. and then I realized that there is just too much young gang activity outside my door to get involved. the next day, boom he's done with it. adam never wrote back.

It would be great if you could set up a camera on the opposite side of the street somehow.
