Do you remember that old building with odd pieces of funiture hanging out on the sides? This is the old Hugo Hotel (Howard and 6th Streets). Well, as a sign of the times to the rising real estate prices, the art installation, known as "Defenestration", is sadly, being taken down    You have until June 3, 2014 to see the installation... one last time :(

Wow, that's a sad end of an era! I had no idea. Thanks so much for sharing, Grace.

Speaking of an end to an era, where the hell did all the Baskers go?!?!?!?

Super sad  Can't believe it's gone. There was a HUGE crane a couple of blocks away, when I drove by Howard and 9th on Sunday. Sigh.... :(

*scroll half way down the page for the video of the removal
...so sad

P.S. We really ought to have a BASK re-union at some point?

They need to stop tearing down buildings with character and putting up cheap box shaped buildings.

In other news...Arch is being evicted.
I'm sure many of you don't know Arch but the last paragraph in the article just sums up everything going wrong with San Francisco.

Arch is unique. I've loved them since they were in their original location. Terrible that they're being evicted. As you probably know were also losing Flax Art Supplies (to the glass wall of condos that Upper Market has become.)

With the demand for housing in SF. more and more businesses will be kicked, torn down and/or leave.

I had no idea this was being taken down, I had always enjoyed whenever I was in the area. It was really a bit of an inspiring piece, showing what public art could do. We need more sculptures this good...
