| Post subject: | Charging Buyers Paypal fees |
I am interested to hear people's opinions, especially those of you that have sold significant amounts of items. Businesses like Super7 that accept Paypal as far as I know don't charge a fee for use of the service, it's just a cost of doing business. But then I guess some businesses on charge Merchant's fees for some CC companies by charging a surcharge? Do you charge people who pay you with paypal the fee Paypal will deduct from your payment? I'm asking because I think it sucks and you should accept you're utilising a service for your benefit so you wear the cost |

It actually against ebay's policies to charge paypal fees and some people still do. If you use paypal and someone pays you I say you eat the fee, I do. |

*edit* talking about personal sales here if people are really worried about the fees then they can include it in the price and not mention it separately. i see people do this with dolls all the time and its bullshit. people will say they ONLY accept paypal and then ask for the paypal fee. derrr, if you only accept paypal then just tell me the actual cost asshole. is really shitty. sorry, sounds strong but thats how i feel LOL |

As you said- you should accept you're utilising a service for your benefit so you wear the cost and I agree It bugs me when an Ebay seller asks for 4% in their ad, but it REALLY bugs me when you find out after you ask them a question about something else. Recently, I asked a seller about shipping and was told the cost AND to either send a check(yay! can't wait to line up at the Post Office and worry about mailing a payment) or tack on a % if paying by Paypal. PFFT!!! When the price is the same as everyone else, what's the incentive to buy from that seller? |

I eat the fees for the item but not the shipping. Only with paypal can you sell around the world and get paid quickly. Ike |

If I'm selling something I have I will eat the fees, but if I go out to buy something for someone at cost (retail) I will ask them to cover paypal fees. |

In the past if I was selling something at retail over 300, I would charge it if they were paying with a CC... but I figured other ways to get around it now |

The cost of money transfer usually is a part of the selling price, but why shouldn't a seller doesn't give the advantage of low cost for the money transfer to the buyer? As long the terms of trade are clear for the buyer charging paypal fee isn't a bad thing. Especially if you selling something without or within a low profit. What really sucks, are sellers who work with hidden fees and unclear terms of trade. |

it's purty lame when I know I'm paying, but hey. Sometimes a seller could just mark up the price of the item to compensate for the $ they'll lose with fees and stuff. If I pay a higher price for something, I usually suspect that's what some of the extra cost will smooth out. How could you know? |
