A while back, I posted a rather shitty pic of this Ultra Q DVD insert/freebie from the YJA auction I won for it- here's a high-res scan...

LOVE this take on Garamon!
The scary-creepy skeletal aspect of his face is really accentuated, and the "plates-n'-hydraulics" design of the hands nicely plays up his biomechanical nature.
Superb re-imagining.

If anyone has a clue who did this illustration and how I can contact them (it's credited to "buildup" on the card- googling proves fruitless), please let me know! I have a dream project in mind.... :D

Oh- might be a good place to mention this- the winner's prize went out shortly after the drawing, but to the others who particpated in my recent Garamon contest- I'm late getting it out to you, but keep your eyes on that mailbox- your little thank-you prize is almost on its way!

He's making a face like he just steped in some crap. That's awesome though.

Was there any copyright info in the pic when you first found it? That might help you find the creator.

that is an awesome pic... it reminds me a lot of Mars Attacks in terms of the surreal nature of it.

Here's what's on the bottom front of the card- owing to the year, I assume that's a Tsuburaya copyright on the left ("art by buildup" on the right):

And here's what's on the back:

Oof...semi-awful scans, sorry...

See if you can find an official site for the DVD release, they might have more info.

Pigmon (from Ultraman) is friendly, Missy (in the dubbed words of the girl from the Science Patrol, "Yes,Ilikehimhe’scute!”); Garamon (from Ultra Q) is a giant, flailing, destructive, remote-controlled dancin' fool....same monster suit, different shows/different characters (in size and demeanor).

Sorry to cause you an upset! :D

I just saw a mini diorama figure set yesterday that depicts Red King about to step on Pigmon!

Post subject:  Re: Very cool interpretive Gara-pic

Reviving this thread, as I'm hoping that someone here (likely one of our Japan-based 'brainers) can help me find a site or contact info for the graphic design company buildup. I've done a lot of sleuthing and have so far come up empty-handed. I would greatly appreciate some help; I really want to get in touch with them regarding their Garamon design (which I will re-scan and re-post up top this evening).

Thanks in advance!
