if you ask me, I'd take any mac over a dell...but If you want me to talk you out of it, the imac is on the lower end of the mac spectrum. Its a great "starter" mac though. I'd do it! Or you could just get an external monitor & keyboard for your laptop...?? i'm no help, am I? |

imacs are fabulous, but a new one is supposed to come out shortly so I would wait a bit. not sure if you currently use osx, but it's truly a great home OS... my imac has not crashed in the entire 2 or so years I've owned it my imac is completely wireless except power and so light i actually regularly move it from place to place (like watching dvd's in bed) notice the fabulous, design, the tiny footprint, etc. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1347/849 ... 7102ba.jpg so in short, the imac is a gorgeous, reliable, powerful home system, and the new ones even run windows very well through bootcamp |

I would say that with the way the iMacs are now they kick some major ass. They don't have a big stupid tower and everything is right there at your fingertips. They also come pretty loaded and you can always upgrade them straight from Apple. I am looking at getting the 24 in to go along with my Powerbook. "Dude, you're gettig a Mac." |

I work with a intel Imac and it's great. Never crashes, small footprint, looks great. I use Parallels and that allow me to run Windows and Mac apps at the same time. OSX has less spyware, viruses etc than Windows. Overall just a good experience. IF there's an Apple store near you, go over and test drive one. |

while all the mac nerds are in one place, does anyone know how hard it is to upgrade a G5 tower (the first G5s that came out in 2004). Its getting pretty slow, but still works great. |

I love my 24" intel iMac. I can run os x, windows xp, unix (via terminal),and ubuntu all at once, without the need to reboot. Super fast and convenient, for me at least. |
