http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluto

I was just watching a show on THC about Pluto getting demoted as a planet. Seems like people have strong feeling about this issue so I wondered if anyone on SkullBrain gave a shit.

I wanted to watch that but no thanks to work...

If nothing just for history sake, a novelty if you will, its a planet.

I voted no, after reading the Wiki article it seems the planet is classified a dwarf planet now, apparently there's a difference :D

ugh. would you consider the new found Eris and Ceres planets or dwarf planets?

are we sticking up for pluto for nostalgic reasons, when we should be looking at the facts?

add: I love pluto as much as the next guy, even if he is a dwarf.

I didn't realize how much the definition of "planet" had changed over the centuries.

Poor Pluto is a lap dog now:

Although I am making sport of the topic, those who want a serious debate, sorry I am not game.
But after watching its really just a name game, a group of scientist voting on it, well isn't very scientific. Interesting topic though, one of the better bits of infotainment I have seen in a bit to say the least.

I loved the scientist voting on it, that is what made me start a poll.

Post subject:

yeah, no reason to poll if there was no reason to vote. BUt still, it is a planet.

Pluto is a planet and I like all the names of the dinosaurs (before they started changing them).

Pluto is no longer a planet. This passed about a month or two ago, or so I thought

Yes it's a planet.

I'm not going back and re-learning stuff from grammer school.

yeah, it's a planet--a dwarf planet according to the IAU, I guess. light years away so it doesn't make a difference what they would call it, to me.

I don't feel they should take it away especially since they were considering naming some tiny ass rock orbiting even further out than Pluto our 10th planet.

I'm going to have to change my mnemonic: "My Very Educated Mother Just Said, 'Pluto is no longer a planet, you idiot."

Next they'll be telling us that rocketships to the moon don't have fins. Sheesh!

It's sort of amusing that people get so emotional about the "planet or not?" debate, but I assume it's basically because we don't like to have long-held understandings undermined, as much as any re-evaluation of astronomical standards.
