| Post subject: | Rough Trade Art show with Pete Fowler |
Rough Trade is pleased to announce an exclusive exhibition by internationally-renowned illustrator and artist Pete Fowler! Perhaps best known for his visual representation of Super Furry Animals and his Monsterism comics and figures, Pete Fowler's career spans music, animation, advertising, art and design. Rough Trade is thrilled to host an entirely new concept and series of artworks from Pete and the inhabitants of Monsterism Island. The exhibition will run from Saturday August 25th for eight weeks with an amazing private view party on Saturday evening from 6 to 10pm featuring a live performance from Voice Of The Seven Woods (Twisted Nerve/Finders Keepers), DJ sets by Cherrystones (Whatever We Want Records) and Rough Trade DJs as well as amazing films and projections from Pete Fowler's archives. This is the first installment in a series of exhibitions at Rough Trade East Shop. For guaranteed entry, come down early. Help us kick off a new era! VOICE OF THE SEVEN WOODS!! DJ CHERRYSTONES!! MONSTERISM SOUNDS!! ROUGH TRADE DJS!! PLUS FILMS/ANIMATIONS... NEW BANDS FROM MONSTERISM ISLAND AN EXHIBITION OF ARTWORK BY PETE FOWLER Ancient mariners told tales of lands that were, but weren't supposed to be. Lost in the vastness of the earth's oceans where no man has ever trod, lies Monsterism Island, the home to a multitude of weird and wonderful creatures; talking, thinking, jogging, drinking, dancing progeny of a more imaginative creative force. Monsterism Island is a magical place where sentient mountains gaze down upon communities of uniquely fashioned creatures, whose adaptations set them apart from the people and animals we are familiar with. Yet the islanders maintain lifestyles we recognise, a kind of distorted modern civilisation, the details of which make their world a far stranger one than ours. This exhibition draws from the rich and varied musical veins of Monsterism Island and looks at the different genres of music and bands that spring up, from backwoods country, to urban shoebox bedroom, via working monsters clubs. The music that the islanders create has a hazy link to our own world of music, but with the island's own idiosyncratic twists added. Enjoy, marvel and put your fingers in your ears as we span genres such as glam rock(Ostrych), subterranean black metal(XAJLAUQS), drunkabilly (The Gristles) and multi-dimensional acrid oustsider commune folk (Black Moon Water) to name a few.
