From an article in this morning's SF Chronicle, on the Barney's opening:

" ... big names like Battistoni, Lanvin, Zegna, Isaia ... Brioni, Armani Black Label, Kid Robot and Helmut Lang."

Say WHAT? That's about as jarring as seeing a Tilt hoodie hanging between a pair of Armani Black Label and Helmut Lang suits.

KR has had a long running relationship with Barney's...

IIRC Huck Gee did a series of his skull figures as Barney's exclusives. Still I agree that there's a broad dichotomy between KR garb and Armani. ;-)

Barney's powers-that-be no doubt knows that a lot of American wealth is now held by younger generations than in the past thank to the tech industries, so a multi-tiered approach is probably shrewd. Plus, a little street cred (cough, cough) can't hurt if they're interested in cooling-up their old guard image. No matter how much many toy-lovers here and at the KR board enjoy bashing bad KR gear, fact is that kids with cash are buying it in a big way these days.

Faile also did $90 Faile Scarves for Barney's a few years ago, though not with Kid Robot... Good for all of them :)
