If you're going to quote me, I would prefer that you reference the entire quote you're referring to: Quote: I take issue with the sentiment that we're some mob mentality group that looks to bash new people regardless of what they contribute. I think this is patently false. We welcome people who ask for help, and who are courteous. We give self-entitled people with attitudes a hard time. In general, we give what we get. This board has always had an edge to it... it has never been warm and cuddly. People with thin skins don't last too long, and I don't really see that as being too much of a problem. A community doesn't necessarily HAVE to be all welcoming nor does it have to bend over backwards to accomodate an agitator such as boshzilla. If I see someone taking cheap shots at friends, I'm going to respond. If that's something you find egregious, then we can agree to disagree, but I don't really see what the community gains by allowing jerks like boshzilla to just get away with his crappy attitude. |

I am still a newb compared to alot of the people on this board and I have never once felt like I was looked down upon and felt shunned. I like the attitude on this board. It keeps out the riff raff and all the pages upon pages of worthless threads. |

From new blood to...what is it now...addicted. I was never mobbed or bullied nor anything of the sort. But then again I did read the board first before posting, introduced myself, and read all the back issues of S7 magazine I could get my hands on. Oh and did I mentioned that I actually used my real name. I'm a dork I know..but hey if it's good enough for Frank,,,... |

khanate wrote: I never see new folks with friendly attitudes and thirst for knowledge get jumped on here. I came here with a thirst for knowledge and after asking an honest question in my first post, someone promptly implied that I was a flipper and cited that as his reason for not answering my query. I had already read enough to know that flippers were held in very low regard here and I was kinda pissed to be greeted as one. I mean, if he thought I was a flipper, why did he respond at all? I counted to ten and responded without malice and simply let it go. I realized that I had not properly introduced myself to the board yet and simply tried again. I'm a really easy going guy, though. Someone less even tempered might not have been so diplomatic. I have pretty much stayed out of the 'hot' threads up until now, but I'm going to agree with Roger on this one. Noobs are going to step out of line or break a rule now and then. That's a given. It also seems a given that a few of the more established members of the board will respond to a Fresh Meat's misstep with sarcasm, and snide remarks that come across as thinly veiled hostility. Often, the infraction is ridiculously minor or simply an honest mistake for which the sarcasm and snide remarks (yes, even the 'mild' ones) are disproportionately harsh (You should keep in mind that sarcasm and snide remarks will ALWAYS seem more harsh to a new person surrounded by the 'in crowd' in an unfamiliar place.). This doesn't seem to be a problem as long as the Fresh Meat is willing to swallow his pride and apologize for not being perfect. All hell breaks loose if he responds to hostility with his own hostility, though. Thats when the mob forms. Everyone lines up to bash the offender, all the while demanding that he apologize for making everyone so angry. The more the offender resists the abuse, or, God forbid, fights back, the more people jump into the fray to join the bashing. Does anyone really believe that bashing someone en masse is a good way of illiciting an apology? I don't even believe it makes anyone go away. On the contrary, I think it makes them more determined to stick around. What seems to be lost on the participants in these pointless exercises is that while they are professing to only be protecting the board from being ruined by outsiders, they are oblivious to the fact that the majority of the negativity, the accusational and threatening posts, are being made by them and their fellow long-time board members. And the negativity that the many spew in response to a single offender does far more harm to the board than the Fresh Meat could have ever done on his own. Please, don't get me wrong. I like it here. What Brian Flynn has done with his magazine, his store and this board is absolutely teriffic. I have nothing against anyone on this board. I don't know most of you and I will always give the benefit of the doubt to all of you no matter what transpires here. I wish I had more to contribute, but alas, I am one of those noobs, still trying to learn and add my two cents here and there. I fear I've added far more than two cents worth and I'll apologize now for being so wordy. Hell, I'll apologize in advance for being a Fresh Meat with an unpopular opinion. I'm sorry, but I've looked at this as objectively as I could and this is what I've come up with. The truth is, I don't expect this board to be some kind of utopia where everyone holds hands and sings songs about how great it is that we all get along. I don't expect that anything will change after this thread has run its course, either. I only hope that some folks here will realize that the reactions they get from noobs don't occur in a vacuum. I think someone posted in that other thread that it takes two (or more) to have a conflict. The problem is, the person who said this seemed to imply that the Fresh Meat should've been the one to quit so that the conflict could end. I say, the onus is on the veteran board members to snuff conflicts by stepping away. It's the veteran board members who should know better than to pour gas on the fire and it's the bigger person who walks away and I'd rather see that person be the veteran board member than the Fresh Meat. Blah! I'm going to try to fade into the woodwork again. You may proceed to tear this apart. I'm sure someone will. I still like it here. |

il_muffino i hear what you are saying, but the incident you are refering to is not like the fluffy scenario you describe in your post. the incident in question was straight out rude and said person was being a knob so yeah he got blasted , i've been here a year , love it here, like the fact that people can be cranky, and i actually like the fact that people stick together and promote RFSO which seems to be being lost on a lot of new people round here. |

SB can be a rough place at first if not approached correctly and by the rules. I made that mistake of introducing myself and my Kozik collection here and well most hated it but a few enjoyed it, especially my star wars shit. I agree that Bosh shouldve got blasted and he very well did, but it shouldnt have gone on for as long as it did. This is just my two cents. Live and learn |

il_muffino - there's a world of difference between a Fresh Meat like you and a Fresh Meat like bosh. Your post is well reasoned, balanced and respectful - no one is going to tear you down for it even if they completely disagree with you. There wasn't a shred of respect in anything bosh had to say. As such I feel that any bashing he received was warranted. After it was clear that he wasn't going to tone down his attitude towards the board I think the continued comments were made with the hope of running him out of town, rather than to seek an apology that hadn't yet been issued. You could be correct that these comments will only make him more determined to stick around. But if he does stick around and doesn't change his attitude it's likely that he'll get tossed by the moderators - which again is what it appears most people are aiming for. Now, if he can settle down he might blend into the community over time. Take a look at Geo/Taro. He's been laying low and contributing to the board since his cover was blown. The personal attacks have fallen by the wayside (with a little help from Brian) and things seem to be just fine, even if the personal animosity still exists. |

I like the feistiness of this board it keeps it interesting , even when you are the recipient of the bashing ! Well....not exactly true...on a particular Caribbean Island ...La Pinga is a Serious complement ! If someone says you are "LaPinga" you are awash in Glory!!! Even the Chicas use it all the time to describe something/someone they Really Like....like how we use words like Killer,Sick,Rad,Awesome,Dope...ect. Manic Street Preachers gig.... Eldorado: "So whatcha think?" chica:"LA PINGA !!! LA PINGA!!! LA PINGA!!!!" They do not understand how and why La Pinga is used as a negative...they see it as Only a Positive !!! So I wonder how/why we decided that La Pinga/Dick was derogatory anyway..we do the same with P**sy and C**t...kinda lame eh? At least As***le is a word I understand how it can be seen as derogatory. For me SkullBrain is LA PINGA !!!! LOL!!! Almost Always ...if someone is eatin alive here...they deserve it... Certain OLD/OG disputes need to die off for sure....but overall if it got any "nicer" here it would be flooded with idiots after awhile and "Popularity takes the Piss outta things" anyway. If people like Boshzilla wanna come with that attitude...they should be eatin alive....after all SkullBrain has a hard enough time not going Cannibal on its own Clan |

Great post eldorado. So, if anyone ever calls you a "dick," say thank you, unless your name happens to be Richard in which case you might want to ask "what?" |

Don't get me wrong and I'm not sure about how most readers feel. But the only reason I had any part in responding to Bosh was because it really felt insulting to be looked down on and hard not to take it personally when I read his posts. That aside, he's made a formal apology so now we may all move on... I hope! Being an ass clown can be useful u're right alifeintoys wrote: im pretty much down with u roger - just because some newbie behaves like an ass clown doesnt give anyone the right to behave the same. though i have to admit, sometimes its kind of usefull to have some fighting with to stupid newbies that dont get anything. however some members seem to be bored of talking about toys and tend to see this board as a debate club only. |

Thanks for the responses to my verbose post. Heck, I like this board all the more that some of you actually took the time to read the whole thing. I'll go back to blending in and trying to learn once again. Does anyone want to talk about toys? |
