TOY CONTAMINATED WITH 'DATE RAPE' DRUG PULLED November 8 2007: 10:13 AM EST, WASHINGTON (AP) -- "Millions of Chinese-made toys have been pulled from shelves in North America and Australia after scientists found they contain a chemical that converts into a powerful date rape drug when ingested. With only seven weeks until Christmas, the recall is yet another blow to the toy industry - already bruised by a slew of recalls this past summer. In the United States, the toy goes by the name Aqua Dots, a highly popular holiday toy distributed by Toronto-based Spin Master Toys. They are called Bindeez in Australia, where they were named toy of the year at an industry function earlier this year. It could not immediately be learned whether Aqua Dots beads are made in the same factories as the Bindeez product. Both are sold by Australia-based Moose Enterprises. The toy beads are sold in general merchandise stores and over the Internet for use in arts and crafts projects. They can be arranged into designs and fused together when sprayed with water. Scientists say a chemical coating on the beads, when ingested, metabolizes into the so-called date rape drug gamma hydroxy butyrate. When eaten, the compound - made from common and easily available ingredients - can induce unconsciousness, seizures, drowsiness, coma and death." Can anyone GET me any of these??? |

ok... i know I've made the mistake of taking things that you've said too seriously before, and I know that your implication to date rape someone with a toy is a joke...but seriously... fucked up. |

i hate to come off as the token "angry feminist" girl on here (really i seriously do)... but i spent a lot of years around a lot of a-holes who said shit like this and meant it. I've known people who were drugged & raped... so its a soft spot. |

Just to steer the topic off slightly, Rohypnol (date rape) does have some uses. I know this chap who dislocated his ankle whilst under the influence. They couldn't use anaesthetic because of the alcohol so they gave him Rohypnol whilst they manipulated his ankle. He screamed like an absolute baby (don't blame him!). Next day, he couldn't remember any of the pain he was in. |

yeah if administered for something like that, i think it is probably ok although i would be wary of who gave it to me because as you mentioned parka, you don't remember anything. also, as someone who has been slipped something unknowingly before, it definitely is not cool, and you're not an angry feminist missy for standing up for what you think is right. it's good that these were taken off the shelves. can you imagine little kids dying from playing with beads? |

"Uh, to get back to the, uh, the warning that I've received ... you may take it with however many grains of salt you wish ... that the brown Godzilla that is circulating around us is not specifically too good. Uh, it's suggested that you do stay away from that. Course it's your own trip, so be my guest, but, uh, please be advised that there is a warning on that one ok?" |

I saw a spot last night on the local Denver news about these aqua dots. the news anchor walked right into a local K-Mart and bought boxes of these dots. Im sure tons of kids are already thinking of munching these dots for a high. Im thinking the manufacturer used the lowest quality chemicals to make these dots and would not be safe even on adults. These were on the market for a long time (best seller in Australia #1 toy) before the scare - Im thinking the factory changed the manufacture process to save some money, but did not do their research. has anyone heard of people purposely getting high off them?? |

GBH i think.. dunno i'm not so up on my drug lingo some kids in new zealand ingested some and got fucked up GHB? Health risks: unknown at present, although there have been reports of people suffering convulsions and collapsing and a recent fatality in the UK (Oct 97). urban75 has received several reports of users being hospitalised with stomach and breathing problems, although there is almost always other drugs involved. The drug, which is derived from an American anaesthetic, lowers blood pressure and in some cases people find breathing difficult. Overdosing can lead to a loss of consciousness and coma. It is not recommended that asthmatics or those with any form of respiratory or low blood pressure disorders take this drug. |

hold on i'll find the article - yeah fucked up bad and kids as in under 10 not 'doin it for the kids' i should've worded that better nah amyl nitrate is "rush" - predominantly a gay drug cos it loosens your bumhole. i've done it a couple of times (not for aforementioned reason i don't think) and it's pretty nasty. kind of sends you sideways but it's real temporary like nitrous oooh yeah GHB i think that's it, i tend to mix that up.. http://www.stuff.co.nz/4265388a11.html |

GHB is also highly addictive. Saw a 20/20 special once on some former bodybuilders who used, one of which escaped a rehab facility only to be found at a local Sears drinking some sort of paint with similar chemicals in it. |

Straight And Alert Who drinks the barley? Who drinks the grain? Who shoots the shit into their veins? Is there really the need for the use of dope? Can it solve one’s problem? Can it help one cope? Something must be wrong when one slurs to talk It hast to be hard when it’s difficult to walk The best thing to know is to know one’s fate It’s easiest done when the person is straight Straight And Alert Straight And Alert Straight And Alert Straight And Alert Straight And Alert Straight And Alert Straight And Alert Straight And Alert Being high doesn’t mean that much to me There’s much more to life than I can see I can’t wander around in an unaware state Know where I am have to be able to relate I don’t think that I’m too good It doesn’t mean I have feelings that you never could Something beyond a statement of my pride Something solid makes me feel good inside |
