i have a ton of questions: 1. the 4 days passes have been on sale for a while, when do you usually buy yours? Have these ever sold out in the past? 2. What hotel do you stay in? 3. what are approx nightly costs? No hotel info on the sdcc site, when is this info revealed? i need to start saving money, vacation days plannin etc... besides toy monies how much money is this trip going to cost. plane ticket, hotel, foods, show ticket, what else? |

4 day passes sold out before it opened.. then the busy days sold out. I imagine it will sell out faster this year. I should really buy my pass now and worry if i'm actually going to go later. I would plan now (although I haven't yet) |

It's never too early to talk about the next SDCC I can't answer most of the questions as this will only be my second one, but I do know that this year it is expected that the 4 day passes will sell out fairly early, I know last year Saturday sold out, I'm not sure about Friday. Hotel info is released sometime closer to the actual convention and hotels book pretty fast after that, within that day I assume. Sorry I can't be more help. |

lurker wrote: i have a ton of questions: 1. the 4 days passes have been on sale for a while, when do you usually buy yours? Have these ever sold out in the past? Yes. Buy them early. I got in a bind last year. Every year gets busier. Saturday was sold out when I bought my tickets because I waited. 2. What hotel do you stay in? Usually somewhere in Hotel Circle. Its a bit of a hike. Downtown is convenient but pricey. save your money for toys. 3. what are approx nightly costs? I don't remember exactly. $150-$200? anyone else? I remember complaining that its a bit pricey, but I usually forget about it by the time its over. No hotel info on the sdcc site, when is this info revealed? Keep an eye out. Hopefully someone will post it here. They go fast! Every year its been a mad dash to book. 2006 we had 2 different rooms in the same hotel, but eventually got them to move us to one reservation. 2007, we had to split our stay into 2 HOTELS, and eventually scored the other night we needed in one after obsessively checking/calling daily for cancellations. i need to start saving money, vacation days plannin etc... besides toy monies how much money is this trip going to cost. plane ticket, hotel, foods, show ticket, what else? depends where you are flying from. I think I usually pay $400 round trip from Phila? less if you are closer. more if you are further. and depends on airline/when you book all that. food-I dont' notice a difference between the cost of food in San Diego and the cost of food in Philadelphia. There are fancy places. there are cheap places. there are grocery stores. I also don't know how much you eat. hah. If I were you I'd take one day and sight see or do something in the city. Its lame to go somewhere and spend the entire time in a convention center. So bring some money for a local activity or 2. There are also lots of free events at night if you are cheap/non discriminating.Factor in transportation too- How will you get there? Cab? Car Rental? Trolley. There are lots of ways to get around but all cost $ too. Depends what you are doing. Here are some people's totals from 2005. They vary greatly. http://www.skullbrain.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=3858 depends what you buy and how expensive your stay is. Keep in mind that this is 2006 prices. Things would probably be a bit more now. I'm not usually this helpful, so you're welcome. haha. I guess all in all I spend $1000-$2000 at Comic Con, so save up. |

Danielle and I are getting our passes in just a few days. We are also going to stay at the hotel right across from the convention. I'm stoked, my budget will be a lot better this year. I'm very pleased with that. haha |

I met a guy once that said he was selling his car to be able to afford comic con last year and that he would just finance another one like a month or so after it, so its kind of steep. I spend like 200 bucks max when I go, most of the crap I want isn't for sale or I miss stuff and see it later and go WTF! |

you can easily spend $1K your first 10 minutes there (if you run around before lines start building up) |

Missy's right - I'd suggest that anyone thinking about going book their shit now. Got mine booked (with the invaluable help of my wife) a few days ago and hotels were already starting to be scarce (that is, if you don't want to pay $400+ per night, or stay 15 miles out of downtown). It really seems as if hotel rates (which get higher every year anyway) get jacked through the roof for that particular weekend, just because they can get it. Getting passes (especially 4-day ones) now might be a good idea as well. I wasn't there last year, but by all accounts it was insane. |

Well this is a big blow for Atomic Mushroom but it can't be helped. Looks like it will be a no go for me and AM this year as well. My wife is pregnant with our 3rd child and she'll be due right around SDCC 08. Family always comes first so I'll be a spectator at the sidelines again this year. |
