there was a site that had a bunch of tranlsation of toy companys on it but cant remeber mainly just looking for blobpus gargamel skull toys |

Ok, I'm sorry, but this bothers me. Kanji is not the generic term for Japanese characters- it refers specifically to that set of characters that were derived from Chinese characters. Japan has three systems of writing- hiragana, katakana and kanji, the first two being the simplified forms of the latter. Most vinyl companies are written in katakana, as this is the set used for non-Japanese words, with some exceptions (e.g., Kaijuken, which is written entirely in kanji). It is more correct to ask for the Japanese characters for a particular company in most cases. I hate to be nitpicky, but I keep seeing this. |

I had assumed correctly that it was 'japanese characters' but then saw alot of ppl ask for 'kanji' so I started asking in those terms. Thank you for the correction Chris |

And actually it's appropriate to refer to it (being katakana and hiragana) as just "kana", as well. |

i know the difference between kanji and katakana (basically,,,katakana are simple stroke characters,,which like letters in english,,each character represents a phonetic sound & kanji are more complex looking symbols,,,which are not phonetic) but where does hiragana fit into this equation?? |

For every hiragana character, there is a parallel katakana character. Katakana is used mainly for ideas or things non-Japanese, or brought in from other cultures. Katakana is also often used for company names (not always, though..."Butanohana" is written in hiragana, as an example). If you're reading a newspaper or magazine, the bulk of what you'll see is hiragana and kanji, with some katakana used when appropriate. Alot of times, you'll see little hiragana characters alongside the more uncommon kanji, so you can still read the article, even if you don't know the kanji. Hope this doesn't confuse things even more... |

thanks for that hillsy!! definitely not confusing,,,,makes lots of sense... so,,i assume that most of the newer kaiju companies are written in katakana (gargamel & real head for instance)... with gargamel,,you can see the two g's... are you familiar with the skull toys characters?? they look like kanji to me..is that right?? |

The little hiragana by the kanji is called furigana! 
The Skull Toys' names are written in katakana. Very few of the companies use kanji, except for some of the more vintage-oriented ones- Sunguts Honpo (Honpo is in kanji), M1Go, Shikaruna Koubo (the Koubo part). |
