records, toys, whatever what is your background? i mean, do you have a business education or did you come from somewhere else? also how did you choose the location for your shop? did geography make a huge decision in how your place unfolded? did you move to a place to open up or did you stay where you were familiar? |

I have a book/toy store. Been in retail for around 20 years, worked in various positions from sales to upper management. I can't say that I have any business education other than experience. However, I am a firm believer that the best retail experience comes from doing the job, not a text book. Got fed up with working for corporate chains and decided to make my move. Picked a location with good foot traffic and high visibility (do your research, location is so important). I chose to stay where I live partially due to the moderate cost of living and knowledge of the local market. Hopefully that answers your questions. |
