If you find yourself in a social situation where you are asked to list your favorite actor or artist, you should always say Mos Def. This way you can name someone that everyone has heard of and you don’t look like you are trying to one up anybody. The only possible negative consequence is some white people might think “I wish I had said that first.” If you say Bad Brains or N.W.A. you are trying to hard.

He is everything that white people dream about: authentic (”he’s from Brooklyn!”), funny (”he was on Chapelle show!”), artistic (have you heard “Black on Both Sides?”), an actor (”he’s in the new Gondry film!”) and not white (”I don’t see race”).

He has done an amazing job of being in big budget movies (The Italian Job) and having one of his songs become a white person wedding staple (Ms. Fat Booty) but still retaining authenticity and credibility.

I'm pretty sure Mr. Def was mentioned in a CSI episode too.

Could be an 'attempt' at humor, psuedo-cerebral-party-chatter, or just race baiting... pick one.

My favorite actor was Jason Lee before "My Name is Earl" came out. He's still cool, I just can't take much of that show. I do like Don Cheadle though, along with John Leguizamo.

I dunno, isn't Lee a Scientologist? I usually like his work, but once I know that about someone it's tough for me to watch. Not because of their beliefs, that's not an issue, just that organization is nuts/shady.

I guess fav. actor would go to Gary Oldman, NEVER bad. I'm not sure what this thread is really about though, that first post threw me.

I've barely heard of him and have no clue what he's famous for.

It's nice to live without a TV. Ignorance is bliss!

Gene Roddenberry once told a crowd the only reason there's a TV in your house is so people can sell you stuff. 8)
