When I first got into collecting these damn things, there were several figures that I felt were so ridiculous, I just knew I would never own one. I found solace in that fact, as I knew my wallet would be spared me ever going after them. I now own several of each. A few that come to mind: I thought zags were ugly when I first saw them. I now think they're cute. I thought Matango was so ridiculous. "Let's just put any damn thing on top of a body." (I didn't know the character then.) I'm now fighting the urge to collect them all. I used to hate the scooped out face of the walking Gargamel hedoran. Now I could never own too many. Currently dorogamis are still 'never evers' for me, but I think I might hear one calling now.... |

Well, I will probably never ever own a Bemon, but it won't be for lack of trying. |

Pushead stuff. Have never felt the urge and can't see it in the future, either. Edit: Whoops, missed the point of this thread....errrrr...never thought I'd buy a Zag, either, but the SDCC one changed my mind. Still my only only one, along with the matching mini. Hey L...you guys make it to SakuraCon? |

Nice post. These are my 3. All of these I thought were a little to goofy but now I'm totally into. For me 1) the walking hedoran. I used to hate the flat face. Now I really like them. 2) Any RxH figure. I thought the torn jeans shorts were too goofy. (I only have a few mini rxh but i really like these figures and the paint applications) 3) Gargamel Fight figures. When the lucky bags this year came out..someone wanted the gammepa. I thought it was so lame. Then I ended up buying a gargadeath and I was instantly hooked. I really like the fight figures now. |

years ago, when I first started collecting Japanese toys, I could not understand the appeal of vinyl toys. i regarded them as crude bath-tub toys. Why would anyone want something so ridiculous when they could have awesome diecast robots? Well...... |

all Cronic those dragamel things and I'll be the first to throw in the obvious put down on anything Western/d.unny/KR looking I'm sure there are others oh this is all stuff I would still never collect, by the way there really isn't a lot of stuff I had to "come around" on. I like most of what I did when I started collecting. |

oh wait, I thought of one I thought these new SB sharkman figures looked pretty lame, but now that I saw on in person, my interest is totally peaked. much cooler up close when you get to hold one. |

hypermook wrote: ...Why would anyone want something so ridiculous when they could have awesome diecast robots? Ha! And ridiculously expensive, I might add... You could buy pristine vintage stuff for the prices of some of these toys. I still like awesome robots, though... I never thought I would collect Cronic figures as the designs were a little too otherworldly for me at the time. ("$90 for the Illusion E Maverasu?? Who would ever pay that much?") Yeah, still don't have that one... For me, it's more a matter of drawing the line in the sand and collecting certain lines/sculpts in lieu of others. I don't think there's any kaiju, fight or neo-kaiju toy that I hate to the point of complete avoidance. |

it was never really any specific toy or line, more a budgetary constraint, i wouldn't pay over $50 dollars at first......i thought "$100 for a plastic toy??" .....now it's way too easy to break the hundy mark...... |

i thought when i use to collect (explicit) that how could i spend this much money on a toy then SB came same thing but more money then RxH havnt had the oppertunity to buy any anraku or bemon yet but i fear the day i decide to start collecting vintage i really havnt found anything that i really want to stay away from though the dogrami nougaki and the other fish head looking dont really do it for me as of yet |

my attempt at vintage collecting was short lived. trying to juggle the finances of keeping up with the new stuff i wanted and tracking down vintage stuff wasn't in me. |

I wasn't into Gargamel in general but when I got a good look at the sculpts at Comicon last year I totally fell for Zagoran and Smogun. |

Bemons for me, not that I hated them off the bat but Frank just didn't take very nice pictures of his, I remember seeing his picture of a bunch of them just sitting in the bottom of a Detolf and thinking, those are $175?! or whatever they used to sell for. Those were handpaints, now I live with regret. |
