Self explanatory really.

Is it covered on your homeowners insurance? Or separate.

(sorry, just wanted to add a poll, cuz they are fun :D )

I was setting up an HO6 policy today for my condo and the question came up as to how much coverage I needed for "personal possessions".

Collections (ie. vinyl toys, comics, whatever) are apparently not fully covered within this portion of your policy. At the end of the day, when your house explodes, and it comes time to itemizing your losses so that you can be paid out for them, they will only cover up to a small amount of what would be considered a personal collection. My provider would cover up to $5000 for such items, inclusive in my maximum overall coverage on personal possessions. So, it's recommended that you have a separate policy for these items... either a rider policy connected to your homeowner's which will have it's own additional annual premium, or just their own stand-alone policy.

Learning this got me wondering if anyone on here insures their toys, and thusly I searched to find Backtrack's poll. Thought I'd share the info for anyone who has not considered it.

Haha. As long as your collection has not yet witnessed tragedy, then I guess it's never too late.

For anybody who has insured their collection, did it involve having to log each individual piece w/ your insurance provider? Or was it a simple, overall monetary estimate of it's value? I only ask because most collections are constantly changing and evolving.

I had to give them the total value of my collection (scary!) and itemize anything valued at over 500$ (scary!). They're charging extra for the collection, and I doubt a random robber would take anything, but if there's a fire, I'll at least get some items back... Take pictures! Apparently they jave an appraiser for all kinds of collections...
