Skittles exist.

forget all about how awesome hot dogs are, what about Skittles?

they are so fruity! and you can totally mix them and make flavor combinations and it really works, it's not just a marketing ploy!

and best of all, green is still lime.

you're all missing the point

they are SO FRUITY AND DELICIOUS!!

I wouldn't care if they were made from raw animal brains, as long as they tasted the way they do. yum.

I sadly have a food allergy to something inside Skittles... (probably one of the food colorings)

I guess they could start using agar agar instead of gelatine. I wonder how many animal byproducts vegetarians eat without realizing it? Best to stay away from processed food entirely.

...like that's gonna go over well with this crowd...

most do I think. if they're a good vegetarian anyway, they do their research, read labels, and know what's in what they're eating.

the end of that gelatin process should read SKITTLEY GOODNESS

i read the ingredients on everything that I eat. I would say that most vegetarians that I know also do this.

i've been vegetarian for 25 years, so most things come second nature. i know what has animal products & what doesn't.

skylar should appreciate this, because I don't eat his skittles. :)

I put crushed up Skittles in all your veggie burgers though.

just red and green ones. you probably thought they were "peppers".

Good points skylar and missy (about Vegetarians being conscious enough to read labels.) I know this is supposed to be a fun thread but some serious issues about processed food have been on my mind lately. So many ingredients are pure mystery when you read the labels.

I fell off the vegetarian wagon a while back, but I still read the label on anything I buy (of course, since my wife is still veggie, and I do most of the cooking, it's pretty much a necessity). It is amazing what they'll hide stuff like chicken broth in, though (eg. potato chips). Plus label-reading makes you aware of the insane amounts of salt and fat in even the most (seemingly) innocuous foods. I love me some junk, but you really have to balance it out.

I won't let a few boiled hooves get in the way of tasting the rainbow.

For me the best part about Skittles is that the red ones are strawberry instead of cherry.

I hate red candy and popscicles that are supposed to be cherry flavored. They don't taste even remotely like cherries and the red dye leaves you looking like you just left a makeout party at Robert Smith's house.

Why eat Skittles when Jelly Bellys are available? They are superior in every way (except pricing) than Skittles...

Missy, I appreciate the diagram on the gelatin process...anything that gets multiple acid treatments is okay in my book...although I was hoping that a little turkey might make its way into the primordial gelatin sludge...

If there are any organic/free range vendors in your area, that's the way to go for omnivores. But I'm sure you know that.

Ya, I buy all my meat from Whole Foods.

Still, cattle is sooooo destructive to the environment. I've been a vegitarian a few times before. I may go back, or at least only eat meat when out and in the company of others.
