Post subject:  Why do people do this???

I don't know if this was talked about, but this is just cruel. I don't know what to say cause it just breaks my heart when reading and watching this shit. It's about a artist capturing a stray dog and useing it as a installation in a gallery, leaving it for days with no food or water and letting it die. He did this on purpose to show a point. BULLSHIT!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzFBD-LgKV0&feature=related

An "Artist" by the name of Guillermo "Habacuc" Vargas Jimenez (habacuc being his stage name) was in the Bienarte 2007 (art exhibit) in Managua, Nicaragua. He himself is from Costa Rica. There he displayed a very sick and starving stray dog. Habacuc named the dog "Natividad", (which means birth). He tied Natividad up under a sign he made on the wall entitled "Eres Lo Que Lees", "You Are What You Read". The letters were made of kibbles. Hundreds of visitors to the art exhibit passed by, a few animal lovers asked for the dog to be released but Vargas refused. Natividad died. Vargas won first prize for his display of art, which he says was to illustrate the real problem of stray dogs and to "sensitize" the people to their deaths. He has now been asked to participate in the upcoming "Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008", "Bienarte 2008 in Central America Honduras" that will be held in November 2008. Though there is a HUGE online petition to ban said "artist" he is still listed as one of the participants.

The gallery owner apparently claims the dog was fed and taken care of (and didnt die). Not sure who to believe but it seems likely to me that it was a hoax.

I didn't know what to believe after reading alot about it. There were so many different stories. One from the gallery i read was that the dog stayed for only a day and got loose and ran away. The artists himself stated 4 different stories. So I don't know. Maybe cause he wants to be in the next show??? Cause he didn't want to get mobbed...As of now, I think it's just fucked up.

this is really strange, even if the dog dying was a hoax, although who knows..

recently a lady from some european country (italy I think) was doing 'performance art' by dressing as a bride and travelling by herself, relying on the trust of others... (a) I do not know how this is art, and (b) stupid idea

she was found dead in turkey

Murdered in Turkey.
And she was doing it to show the world how peaceful and trustworthy the human race was...

What was it that Peter Steele said once? 'Functionless art is simply tolerated vandalism' or something.

Anyway, that sucks about the dog, if its true. Anyone who does this kind of thing in the name of art wants a punch in the jaw.

Then you could photograph it, print it in pretty colors and sell it.

As for the bride....

What kind of world is this that we live in?

From what I understand there's 2 different kinds though, dogs bread for pets and certain dogs bread to be food.

Not making excuses for anything or making a statement about my views on it, just bringing it up.

While it saddens me to think of this, Hindus must feel the same way about our consumption of cows. So I can't pass judgement on what another culture considers food.

autodactyl, i'm curious as to why you didn't embolden the entire sentence, do you believe that about anything or just in this context?

Americans do this kind of stuff to cows and chickens every day. But I guess it only upsets people if the abused animal is cute.

Man's best friend is beautiful and affectionate
an ideal pet
Cats are the same
we make up their names and our love for them is real
Listen up
I gotta ask you
how can we be so cruel?
You say you care
that's a lie
My true compassion is for all living things and not just the ones who are cute so I do what I can
I wanna save lives and I've got a plan

Under the table
he'll eat your dinner like the veggies we can't stand
What kind of meal would he make?
We don't want to ask it
Tradition is all that keeps him alive
Listen up
I gotta ask
how can we be so cruel?
You say you care
that's a lie
My true compassion is for all living things and not just the ones who are cute so I do what I can
I wanna save lives and I've got a plan

Why am I so upset?
Don't even own a pet
I am not trying to press my will
I am not the first to say...
THOU SHALT NOT KILL

Full is all you want to feel
We eat to stay alive, but it's their lives we steal
I think we'd like to change
but most of us are stuck, that's why cats and dogs have
ALL THE LUCK
