if you're not eating all your meals in the convention center, you're not living the full SDCC experience... don't short change yourself.

Everything I know is too far north of the convention center, but I second Extraordinary Desserts. The sandwiches are good too!

I love Pokez Sipz so much. I haven't been to Sipz in a few years, maybe we'll make the trip. :)

Sipz is awesome! Really close to Comikaze!

Post subject:  Re: San Diego Restaurants

I love Sipz! We go there every night when we are there!

Pokez, well cheap good food (Vegan options!) but the service is poor, when I was there it took forever to get our food and there was not many people there. It didn't help overhearing about our 'waiters' staph infection as I paid... I felt like punching him in the god damn mouth just for the number of times he said "Respect!" to his fellow crusty employees and delivery people...

Royal Thai is good too, its near the convention center about 4 blocks up on 5th, or 6th. Easy walking disctance from the con.

And if anyone knows of a vegan pizza joint in SD or LA (Ill be there Sat/Sun) let me know and any other vegan places in LA besides California Vegan would be appriciated.

mama testa Awesome tacos. Amazing salsa bar, except the salsa bowls are too small.

veg-n-out Fallafel!! "Meatball" sandwich is also a favorite, but any sandwich is good because the bread is great.

When me and the ol' lady went in 06' we just ate at In-And-Out and greasy Mexican hole-in-the-wall joints that ruled ass. I think we had sushi somewhere too, but it was unmemorable. Had good reviews, but was just meh.

Moral of the story: Eat greasy Mexican food from greasy Mexican holes-in-the-walls.

I will second a recommendation for the Tin Fish. It's right across the train tracks on the southern end of the Convention Center which makes it a fairly fast alternative to the convention floor food. They have excellent lobster tacos and swordfish and chips.

Against my better judgement, I ate there last week when a friend was in town visiting. Its really not getting any better.

rei do gado - its a brasilian churrascaria. the trick is to go during lunch (we paid $14 last year) when its cheaper than their $45+ dinner. the servers come to your table with skewers of different meats and there's a buffet set up with appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts...
http://reidogado.net/

http://www.yelp.com/biz/rei-do-gado-chu ... -san-diego

lee's diner - real no frills diner, not for snobs. the place you want to go to if you are on a tight budget. last year my husband, best friend and i spent $15 total. very nice asian owners. the place closes at 7pm. canned soda is .60 and bottled water is $1
cash only.

Yeah hodad's is great. If anyone heads north to Encinitas I'd go to the Roxy ( http://www.yelp.com/biz/roxy-restaurant-encinitas) for vegetarian stuff and Raul's (http://www.yelp.com/biz/rauls-shack-encinitas) for Mexican.

Thanks to PW and Chris for posting this stuff...

vegan donuts are a big NO around here.

most places are just like california vegan...
vegan house on wilcox (just north of hollywood blvd) its the closest to amoeba.
green leaves on hillhurst (just south of franklin) is awesome.. i highly recommend the onion rings and pineapple chicken burger
truly vegan (hollywood/bronson) rude service, i'd steer clear

i would suggest heading over to M Cafe (on melrose just west of labrea).. the best fries ever. and their california seitan bbq sandwich is amazing.
