What are the pro and cons of the Wii, XBox & Playstation etc.
I'm thinking of getting one, but don't really know enough about them and thought... how do I trust?
You guys! :D

Buy none of them.

Find a dreamcast and pick up Garou Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade 2, Power Stone 2, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter 3 third strike...this list could go on a while.

It really just depends on what you want to play. I have had all 3 of them at one point in time (i have a ps3 and wii right now). I had a 360 at the US launch, but it really just never caught my attention. Though the 360 has Rez HD, and that makes me want to get another one more than anything.

YES, and you can pretty much download every game (they fit on a CD-R). There is a whole subculture that is still making games for it along with some homebrew apps. I wish I still had mine. I sold it on EBAY with about 200 games.

The Wii is over hyped. It's fun for a couple weeks or when you have a party. Not enough good games.

I have a 360. I play alot of COD4 and stuff like that. It's geared toward the hardcore gamer crowd.

PS3 still seems overpriced and still doesn't have a good selection of games.

Most will fit on a CD-R, however there are a couple that require a full GD-ROM disc. I think Guilty Gears was one, they had to remove the sound to get it to fit on a cd. Such a shame too, it looks gorgeous on the DC.

Honestly, I'd say get a DS. I play that WAY more than any of my consoles. My ps3 at this point is a glorified blu-ray player.

But again, without knowing what you want to play, it sort of hard to recommend something.

That's a point I guess...
I got really into Resident Evil 4 for a while. and hitman. I would love to play warriors, great film! the game has to be amazing!
but generally not a huge huge game player, so I don't know to be honest.
I forgot abou the blu ray option. I'll speak with my flatmates as well.

Also, thanks Kev, that was a good break down, I kind of feel that way about the Wii. I played it once or twice and felt a bit of a twat, so, it seems a bit much to me.

I'm a video game freak and have a PS3, Wii and 360. Honestly, I could do without the PS3 and will probably end up selling it. Lack of software and online support killed it for me. And I honestly believe that the Blu-Ray format is going to be a flash in the pan; but that's a whole different rant. Xbox 360, for me, seems to be the strong system in this generation of consoles. Of course, I do tend to neglect my 360 when I get on a Wii kick. The Wii is great as long as you're playing a game that is well integrated with the motion-based controls, and not something made for a control pad that has had motion-based controls shoehorned into it where they just don't belong (often the problem with the Wii). But games like the Mario series, No More Heroes (officially one of my favorite games ever) and Okami make the Wii a winner. My solution? Get a 360 AND a Wii. :D

I'd get a wii for party games and mario alone. Ps3 and Xbox 360 are looking pretty similar right now but Metal Gear Solid 4 and blue ray are pushing me towards a ps3.

I like playing some older GameCube titles on my Wii.
And it has fun games for multiple players.

Base your purchase on the games you want to play. Who cares about the name of the console. You want to play Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid 4, buy a PS3. You want to play Gears of War, buy an X360. Wii and PS3 are pretty solid while Microsoft still hasn't worked out the deadly red ring. While Microsoft is pretty good about shipping you back a new console when your X360 dies (within the warranty period), it is still a hassle to deal with. If you don't care about exclusive titles, go with what your friends have. That way you can play them online and show them who's boss.

I have all 3 systems.

I'm happy with my PS3...I play COD4 almost every day. Sometimes I think about buying a 360 only because they offer more games. Gatchabert said it best...it's all about what games you wanna play.

It just depends on the types of games you like.

For me, Wii rules. Cheap thrills BUT also some nice, more involved games as well as a lot of creativity. Not much on the first person or big-blowing-up-blood action level though.

PS3 and X-Box 360 seem more like "do you wanna shell out some big bucks or are you cool with the cheaper model?"

Between those 2, I'd go 360 since I'm cheap and any games for PS3 I'd want are made for 360 too. Also I'm not someone "wowed" just by graphics, so the ever-so-slight step up for an extra couple hundred bucks is not worth it to me.

personally i'd say forget yr flatmates, let them fend for themselves and get yrself a psp. it's got a great selection of games in a wide variety, you can hook it to your camera, cruise the internet, watch movies and listen to music, watch tv and plug it in to your tv for a larger screen while gaming at home and you can take it anywhere.

This :D

Seriously though, my brother went through the same thing after losing his job. He ended up getting a PS2. between having the PS1/PS2/DVD player all on one system, that's what I'd go with too. between the two libraries if your not super into gaming, there will be enough to entertain you for the rest of your life.

Of course if you get the PS3 MGS bundle, you get all 3.

decisions decisions.

Of the current generation consoles I own a Wii, PS3, a PSP and a DS LIte. I play the DS far more than any of the others.

Wii - Virtual console, some excellent first party stuff (Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Wii Fit etc), get-togethers with friends.
PS3 - I use mine almost exclusively as a Bluray player, but Little Big Planet is going to be amazing, patience, patience...

I know it's not really relevant to the thread, but I also own these systems - Neo Geo AES, Neo Geo CDZ, Neo Geo Pocket, Neo Geo MVS setup, Dreamcast, Saturn, Nomad, PC Engine, Turbo Duo, Jaguar, 3DO, Gamecube (US model and the Symphonic green Japan-only version), NES (a few different versions), SNES, DS (original and Lite) GBA (Micro, SP, and original), GB (Colour, pocket, and original), PS2, and a Wonderswan. I also have a bunch of JAMMA arcade boards (too many to list). Think that's all of them...

Nice collection, but how many AES games do you actually own :D. Buying toys is an expensive hobby, but buying AES games can send you to the poor house.

OMG yes!

To answer specifically, 11 games, but most of them are the smaller scale titles, League Bowling, Magician Lord, SS 1 and 2, Galaxy Fight, King of the Monsters, etc. The most expensive titles I have are MOTW (which is a JPN version, complete and I'd give it an overall EX-) and Metal Slug 3 (JPN, complete and overall NM). I have the bigger, INSANELY expensive games on MVS.
