I had one of the weirdest discussion earlier this year... topic was 'name your fav superhero', sweaty dude steps in and rambles on and on about how fuckin' amazing Garfield is and how he's the ultimate superhero. Left everyone speechless for hours. |

Garfield is one of the fondest memories of my childhood. My Mom would always give me money to get the new Garfield collection book at the book fair in elementary school. I was never a big fan of the show, but I loved the comic strip. What I hate is Nermal. God I wanted Garfield to kill that damn cat. |

Heathcliff>>>>>>>>Garfield yeah, sans Garfield is way better too. John is an average neurotic guy who talks to a cat. A fat lazy good for nothing cat. And why does Garfield love lasagna? I mean seriously? |

Apparently ol Jim Davis himself is a fan of these. They are pretty good. There used to be this web page called castlezzt or something where they would combine the front half of a garfield strip with it's mirror image. It was very strange and awesome. There's also those guys on youtube who act out Garfield strips in suits. |

Owned a few Garfield books in my day, many Calvin and Hobbes books, but Bloom County was tops, IMHO. |

Calvin and Hobbes and BloomCounty were in a class by themselves. While Garfield, Ziggy, Cathy, and Marmaduke were some of the most insipid drek ever put to ink. The Sunday funnies were never very funny while this shit was king. hopefully open up the field to something better. |

When I was little, I really wanted a stuffed Hobbes. I don't know if I would want toys from the series now. Calvin and Hobbes are preserved in my mind's eye as the two characters running into the snow in that last panel on December 31st, 1995. In terms of nostalgia, I think commercializing the characters would undermine the innocence of the whole comic that made/makes it so appealing. |

I think that is exactly why BW didn't want to go commercial. The strip is still magical to me. |
