Its beginning to revert back into 1994. In Fair Haven which is where I work and pretty much live ( I live 1/4 mile from the line) the Bloods gang is taking over. 4 different gangs and they are getting wild trying to kill each other. I had no clue bloods where in CT. Its madness, about a month ago there was a drive by in front of my apartment and last weekend 2 kids went on a mugging spree at gunpoint robbing 8 total. I live in the Wooster Square area and this is supposed to be a better stretch of Chapel St.

So if you in New Haven and want to try out Pepe's Pizza or what not do so, but when your done dont wander to far at night.

I love my city, but its going to get worse unless they reinstate the gang unit. Crazy.

they HAD a gang unit, and now that the gangs are running rampant, they don't have it anymore?

The gang unit got shut down for corruption. Funny huh, drugs, prostitution, you name it. Its sad but true, you dont know who is worse.

You can call the police which is in walking distance from my apartment and the soonest you will get a car over is MINIMAL 3 hours.

Like I said I love my city. I grew up in Fair Haven until I was 18, then moved back early last year.

When I grew up it was worse, 94 shit, Latin Kings where all over, I had some close friends that where leaders. Then in high school my best friend was a neta.

I don't want to move but its not cool when you wont let you girl out at night to walk the dog.

What a shame. So far (knock on wood) this is one of the first summers that I haven't heard gun shots. And it was HOT this past week - that's usually when things get bad.
Apparently I live in Blood territory - it's sprayed all over the place, and I see groups (I won't call them gangs) of kids wearing all red walking to parties. But it seems to me it's more of an image thing than it was back in the 80s/90s. They really just look like your typical kids, maybe even a bit timid or self conscious. Definitely not the bangers from decades past. (Again, knock on wood.)

To me, that would be the point when I'd decide to move. It's a big country and there are plenty of places where people don't get shot on the streets. Find one of those and don't look back, before it gets worse.

This is the problem, young and stupid kids are the worst. They know they cant do time for whatever crime they commit. Young stupid , easily led with nothing to loose = wild cannon.

I love my city as well but if it ever got to the point where I felt that as an adult I couldn't even go outside to walk the dog I would move. It's not worth it and seems silly to stay.

Its crazy though, because during the day it looks like something out of a movie ( which have been filmed on my street), beautiful huge park, nice and friendly people everywhere. Than at dusk you can smell all the pizza from Wooster street, and the church plays the bells at 6 sharp.

Plus all the feasts and parades, its really is nice. Its just that when its gets dark watch your back as you never know.

The crime is bad but like I said I grew up with it so I'm used to it to an extent. There is nothing like living in the city once you get used to it.

I love that you both are from Connecticutt. Have you seen their tourism commercials? Its like this 40-ish couple walking on a nature path only to emerge into white-picket fence manorhouse suburbia. A leashed Great Dane comes walking down the sidewalk dragging an early thirties asian couple behind them (the new connecticutt). It's like they want you to come stay in their house for vacation. And then move there. Open a Bed and Breakfast and visit Hartford (but only once).

JERSEY OWNS YOU.
(guess where I'm from)

Honestly for the most part CT is really like that. But when you get into city limits its goes 100% in the other direction.

When I worked for Poland Springs my route was in East Hartford. East Hartford and Hartford/ West Hartford are separated by the CT river. But the difference is amazing. East Hartford is pretty decent, there is some ghetto spots but the majority is nice. Now west on the other hand, yikes !

CT is a small state, from one end to the other you will feel like you crossed the country there are so many different atmospheres.

More Hartford than West Hartford. Avon is still nice.
