Why have moderators of specific sections of the forums if other mods can lock any thread in any section?
I've wondered this for awhile.

The fights that evolve from old boardmember relations gone sour get locked occassionally, and that makes sense. People being jerky just for kicks get locked, that makes sense.
But some threadlocks just confuse me. thoughts?

I'd say if a thread you were personally involved with got locked, you'd be justified in asking a mod why, otherwise, just accept the decision and forget about it. I've been puzzled by a few locked threads myself, but figured it's best to just leave it alone.

Moderating online forums is a thankless job. I know because I have helped moderate several of them. If a thread is no longer serving any purpose, a mod putting a brief 'reason' why it was locked, might be helpful (i've actually seen this done here). Threads created just to be inflammatory should be deleted rather than locked, with a stern warning sent by a moderator to the creator, IMHO.

Nah, just kidding.

Basically if I see people acting like jerks, I lock the thread, because once things get nasty they tend to continue that way instead of winding down. The identities of the participants and the contexts usually don't play a part in the decision to lock or not.

Yeah I recall you calling me out for locking a thread outside of the "Whatever" forum once.

We all moderate the entire board. Some of us just happen to be responsible for certain areas of the board. We're not partial to one forum.

That being said...I feel a threadlock coming on...or a warning.

You guys do know about the warnings right?

oh and just so you all know who the mods and stuff are...
