Metallica couldn't have named this song more appropriately. http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601119

all the hype has been how this is a perfect fit between master and justice...i have heard 2 songs both of which sound like they fit like a square peg in a round hole. 8-10 minute songs or not...this is not the metallica i know and love.

I don't understand why everyone keeps giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I could have told you they didn't have it in them like 10 years ago.

GIVE UP

on an other note, kinda related since mustane was the only part of metallica history i like, the new comeback from megadeath totally rocks! i never listen to the local metal station here in MN, basically because it's all that whiney hinder-ish stuff. for some reason, the station classifies that as metal or whatever. ANYWAYS, i was listening out of the blue because i forgot to bring some discs, and the new song totally blew me away! i'm not sure if any likes megadeath anymore, or ever, but i'm definitely still a fan....

I dunno, I'm listening to them right now and what I'm hearing is pretty good. Granted it was recorded 25 (holy shit!!!) years ago!

Wow, this sounds limp.

Ima gonna go and listen to Master of Puppets and lament how good they used to be.

I met James Hetfield when he came into The Alley in Chicago, and he was a fucking douchebag.

Old Metallica sucks.

Not the old albums... the old guys in the band.

it's not too bad... if you haven't heard the whole thing, you should give it a chance once all the way though

I literally heard this song every single time I was in the car yesterday...which was 6 times.
I think the one "extreme" rock station was playing it every hour, and I heard it on the other rock station once or twice too....I listened through it 1 time and skipped it the others

Definitely a let down, and definitely not metal but I guess it is a decent rock/pop song. (if such a thing exists)

Funny comment from someone on Idolator:

"There's something really not-quite-right about this song. And I can't even begin to describe exactly what that might be. It's like a musical version of the uncanny valley; everything is here and in place to be a pretty good heavy, fast, semi-complex Metallica song, and yet there's just something disconcerting about it (in the same way that there was something disconcerting about those kids in The Polar Express). It's as if it wasn't performed by a band, but created from the half-asleep collective unconscious of a million former Metallica fans."

I can't believe I put Ride the Lightning on pause to listen to this. I have to go watch the Grape Lady video now...

I'll take grape lady barking over James Hetfield crooning any day.

Oh ow ow huhhhhhhh

And yes, this song is a disaster.

Wow, I talked to him in New Orleans, and I also thought he was a big asshole. :!:

I knew Metallica was doomed when they covered Bob Seger.

I tried to like the last album but it was impossible.

Now, I won't go passed the Black Album.

Someone needs to show them this band, and maybe it will inspire them.

Its kind of expected and not surprising. To me Metallica stopped being good when Burton passed away. The first two albums were great but they evolved and now it's down to this style of "metal"

Agreed, though I thought Master of Puppets was a killer album.

James Hetfield is indeed a total fucking piece of shit. He's one of those cowards that pays loads of $ to "hunt" and kill imported animals in controlled areas. Maybe some of you remember all the mounted heads that were auctioned off years ago from Hetfields collection? So in short, douchebag kills animals, mounts their heads, then a few years later decides he doesn't even want them anymore and sells them off. He basically deserves to die.

James Hetfield:"hey Lars lets start putting out bad albums after 'and Justice'. But the catch is each album will be worse than the last. Our fans are suckers and will 'stick with us' and convince themselves its actually not crap".

Lars:" ok i'm on board but lets look kind of weird too"

James:"OK!"

Cliff was the man...

The beginning of this song especially sounds like something written by one of my crappy teenage Nirvana-Rage-Tallica wannabe bands. Except I think that we would've actually put more effort into it. If Trujillo can't even put spice back into Lars & Co., then the magic is definitely gone. I had hoped for something better. (that's what you get for being an optimist) And don't even get me started on the St. Anger snare drum "tuning" (I'm a drum guy).
