Post subject:  I think someone's trying to kill me...
This past week I’ve found two screws in my tires – I ride a motorcycle, so a blow-out could be potentially fatal.
Earlier in the week someone left a note on my bike saying that there was a screw in my rear tire. It was put in so deep the head was flush with the surface - and this was in the trough of the tread, the head was flush with the bottom of the trough. The length of the screw was shorter than the depth of the tread so there’s no way it could have gone in from driving over it. So I carefully rode to a tire shop near my house and replaced my rear tire.
Then yesterday as I was getting on my bike to ride home from work I notice a shiny screw head poking out of my front tire! I get off to go look at it and it's the same type of screw. It's not driven quite as deep, but it's definitely been driven in. So again I carefully ride to the tire shop to replace the front. The guy at the shop agrees that it'd be nearly impossible to get a screw in the tire like this just by riding over the screw. Also, both screw heads were shiny, which wouldn’t be likely if they had been on the open road. And both screws were visible when I returned to my bike at the end of the work day – if they had been there before I parked in the morning it’s unlikely that both would be easily visible and accessible.
I'm so pissed - out $340, and paranoid that there's going to be more screws showing up in my brand new tires.

Nope - I have stock pipes on my bike so it's not that loud. And I think this is happening at work, not at home.

Oh yeah, it was this dude who smokes by the bikes that left the note. He use to ride so he's always keeping an eye out on the bikes whenever he's on a smoke break. The motorcycle parking is about 5 feet off-campus, and campus went smoke-free so everyone goes out by the bikes to smoke.

so maybe it's not a personal vendetta. maybe just stupid guy being bored on his smoke break. either way, whoever it is needs a screw drilled straight through the fucking skull! check the other peoples bikes that you park by, maybe your not the only one....

Seriously- you may save someone else, too.
It would also be good to alert all the other riders; if you have an HR dept, you should let them know what's been happening, too.

Yeah, I'm looking at all the tires now. I emailed campus parking & campus safety - but because it's not technically part of campus they can't do anything. :roll: So I forwarded my email to the police - not that they'll be able to do anything.
It really doesn't make any sense...it's gotta just be someone being a jackass just for the shits & giggles. Though there'll be no giggles if I ever catch someone putting a screw in a tire.

i say, take a day off, ride to work, park your bike like normal, and hide. someone comes up to your bike, proceed to whip the piss out of them. solution had!

Bike alarms 150 bucks for the nic eone-anyone so much as sneezes by it, it will go off and is deafening-I had one on my Fatboy worked the nuts..

Good to know! I'll look into that when I get an automatic garage door opener hooked into the headlamp switch. Though it sounds like it'd go off whenever someone parks by my bike - they're packed in pretty tight as it's the only place to park for free!
