This game does look amazing but I'm wondering how it will be for those of us still in the stone-age with our dialup connections and unable to access the online component (whih seems like it is the whole point)... I wonder if the single player game will be enough to make it worth it..

The LBP servers aren't up yet. After they're on, the gamestop codes should work.

Nope, it's published by Sony, developed by Media Molecule.

Apparently gamestop only got in enough to cover pre-orders over the weekend. I was hoping they had enough to where they could just sell some, but no dice. I'll have to wait for this coming up weekend to pick it up now.

Is this just your local gamestop or is it all stores that only got enough for preorders? Will they have them available tomorrow for the official release date?

From my understanding it's all stores. They are supposed to get a shipment today/tomorrow for non pre-order sales. At least that's what the guy at one of the stores here in town said. I'd say that Best Buy and other retailers will have their copies today or tomorrow as well.

This game had a contest where people could take a shot at designing characters that would be in the game did anyone enter that?

Sony had a couple of contests...none of which I entered since they were all based on beta accounts (for which I really don't care for).
I think jaded is the word...that and I'm just too busy.

so, how do the people who actually have this thing like it?

I spent most of today (productive!) playing LBP since I had the day off. I think it's one of the best games I've ever played, but I'm also not a hardcore gamer. I own systems specifically for when something like this comes out, and don't really buy or play much else...but this is one of those times where a game is so great it's worth telling people about...what does everyone else think?

I'm liking it and disliking some aspects of it @ the same time. I've been playing primarily co-op with my roommate and though I see how the game is sort of geared towards co-op there are also some times when it is absolutely frustrating to play in co-op mode. Specifically with the way the "camera" moves sometimes and causes you to just fall into some abyss because of the abrupt jerk. Then there's the way the characters maneuver between the three different planes (foreground, middleground & background). I would prefer if you controlled which plane you were going to at all times instead of the game deciding that sometimes.

Also there are a lot of points during the game where you just need to do a quick series of jumps/leaps/manuevers and with two people playing that can become rather challenging...

I like the game a lot and it's great fun...it just gets a bit frustrating.
