The official rate of exchange internationally is now 98.7 Japanese Yen to 1 US dollar. Celga's rate is now 90 yen to 1 dollar. Has anyone else noticed how off they are? WTF?

Celga is all over the place with their rates. They've been steadily dipping with a very "unfriendly not accurate" rate for months now. Sure the weakening dollar has alot to do with it but they always rate 8 cents below what it really is. Just the other day they had it at 87 to 100, then 92 to 100, now within a day it's 90 to 100. For everyones info, the rate this time last year was 110 to 100.

The rate of 98.7 is the interbank rate, a consumer would never get a bank rate unless you were going to a very generous currency exchange office.

For all of those transactions they need to pay fees. Celga isn't going to absorb bank transfer fees.

But they do that regardless, they charge you that on top of the other stuff. They are making money on top of money. Dont you worry about them.

So they charge you a monthly fee to just be gold, then the fees for what ever you win, plus bank transfer fees, and shipping with in Japan, the shipping to you etc......

They make bank !

It's an annual fee, not monthly. I think it breaks down to about $3 per month.

I'm ok with fees/markup if the service is consistently smooth. YJA auctions are fine, but I've had a few issues with webstore orders.

I thought it was a YJA fee not Celga.

Yup.
There is a monthly YJA membership fee of 294 yen that everybody pays,
Celga or not.

Also, what atease said: you'll NEVER get what it says in the paper as a high-street consumer.
And rates always vary from place to place.

Exchange rates are fluctuating wildly at the moment.
Celga probably have to wait a few days for your money to clear each time.
They're probably just looking at 'worst case scenarios'.
