I'm having a tough time trying to decide on how and where to put my figures at. What does everyone prefer or like the most?

Detolfs look great but I'd need too many! Deep cabinet with glass shelves with glass doors for me too -

I tend to be 'hands on' with my toys. Shelves all the way.

Though Deltofs have the "anti-dust" advantage, they look cold and ugly to me. I don't want to feel like I live in a museum or snooty art gallery.

I went bookshelf. They have more than 1 use (books, huh?) feel more natural and warm and dusting toys gives me an excuse to pick them up, re-arrange them and over mess around with them.

I don't like detolfs either--but I do like the general style. When I get situated, I'm going for something bigger, or with only a glass door.

something like this:

with this, I feel like I can personalize it more easily--throw some art work/posters up on it and maybe even paint it. I also like that it isn't completely made of glass. I'm the kind of guy who likes a good amount of natural light coming in, so at least I won't have to worry about my stuff getting hit with the rays with this display cabinet.

That's exactly the look I'm aiming for . . . :D

Each piece with space enough to be viewed and in a pre defined layout with others of the same line. Totally OCD but immensely satisfying! :D

Fuck the Detolf haters.

go for the Billy with glass shelves. It's not as nerdy as the detolf.

I would consider a detolf but with kids...It's too tempting to knock on the glass.

See, for me, I prefer cramming. Like a collage, overlaying colors and textures and sculpts. What appeals to me most about that is it's what I might have had as a kid, and these toys, for me, are ALL about bringing that excitement back. As a kid I'd have HATED the sterile look and wonder "why aren't they being played wiiitth!!?!?!" Though I don't actually pick mine up and play with them, setting them up in different set ups all crowded in, mixing and matching the display is about as close as I can get.

Josh and Glenn are on your side.

I on the other hand am like a OCD, all facing the same way, by sculpt and anal retentive manner of display. I feel that I appeciate each toy sculpt better that way. Less is more for me I guess.

Food odours can't be good for toys. Mine would last about 2 days before they stank like an indian takeaway.

shelves are cool. I have plenty of my collection in open shelves.....

but man, what's not to love about Detolfs? four sides of glass perfect for displaying toys. nice lighting options....

but $59 each? c'mon... you can't get anything comparable cheaper...

Detolfs are great. Price factor and simplicity of design is the key.

My only gripe is that you can’t adjust the shelf heights.

Would prefer a shop display cabinet but can’t afford one of those at the moment.
Also my girlfriend doesn’t want our living room looking like a shop.
(My view is, looking like a shop is better than the way it looks at the moment…..like a flea market, toys everywhere)

Just purchased (2) new Detolfs on the weekend to add with my other one.
Can’t wait to set em up!

I was a crammer too. but then my collection got a lot bigger, and a lot more focused. I love them out and smooshed together for the same reasons, but I HATE, HATE, HATE dusting! Well, maybe I hate my toys getting dusty more than actually dusting. for the last 6 months my entire RxH collection has been carefully packed away. As soon as I can get my new shelving together, I'll make the switch.

...but I'm definitely leaning towards lots of cramming, fewer risers. I like the "look and find" approach.

If I had a choice I would like to own a big ass, retail style glass cabinet that's dust proof and just cram the hell out of it like what you'd see when you walk into a toy store. Sadly those are just out of my price range.

Post subject:  Re: Shelves vs. Detolfs

I got lucky. An old toy shop closed near me and I got 4 old heavy cases with rolling plate glass doors on the front. 3 are wood and 1 steel. No way I could have bought these at retail, but free was the selling point!

I am one of those cramming guys too. I usually go for the womb feeling.
